sorry, re-read your post and it didnt deserve my response.

a small upgrade is to fit bigport cams, as they are slightly higher lift and longer duration, but with the stuffing around involved, might as well go aftermarket.

mine came with cams, so i didnt have to put any in.

i'd imagine the results you would get are a running engine.

Can we just have someone please answer questions sensibly for once? Rolling Eyes

i think he means aftermarket cams?

on a 4AG depending on what lift and duration they can give you 2-10kw more

I have had both 304 Deg 7.5mm and 280 9mm cams in my 100KW
304's were good at the track with lots of grunt high up but lacking down low torque needed on the dirt,
the 280's have tons of push you back in the seat torque from 4000 onwards.
But having said that with the close ratio gearbox and the 5.1 diff its not really streatable.

oh and you need quads and computer if you go above 260 Deg.

Ben.

Quads arent needed but I would recommend them as once you get to about 272 you start to loose the benefit of having larger cams and if your going to go this far an extra couple of dollars will give you a big performance improvement.

Here is an poorly scanned old graph

What's that like around town, takai? Stock compression? And what ECU are you using?

Thanks Smile

Its horrible, i dont drive it around town though, it is my race car after all. I would probably be shot, crucified, and then hung drawn and quartered, and then shot again for good measure if i drove it around town.

Still a stock bottom end, because im trying to get the suspension right before i rebuild the engine.

There was a white sprinter at the last toymods dyno day that put 122rwkw out of a NA 4age, i think it was a small port.

Am thinking about buying some wade cams about 262degree duration and about .33 inch lift.According to wade cams these will run on the stock ecu no problem at all.

Have you priced these yet?
I'd be interested to know what they are worth and where you are getting them from.

I would go up to 272 max on std ecu like the others have said. new billet should be the only way you go. regrinds arent good

true, they are the basic upgrade ones ay? if I were spending the money (which I am soon) I would get the lumpier ones for the same money coz they will still run ok with ecu. maybe look at some valve springs too if you increase the lift a bit

DO NOT try to run the Wade 1056a cams without a shim-under conversion kit, you will spit the shims.

The 872a grind are fine though, they don't have the extra lift. I run them in my motor currently.

Cheers
Phil

Nah, while 0.338" is getting close to shim spit levels, its still ok, barely.
Im running 0.35" and still waiting for it to spit a shim, admittedly i am changing to solid lifters.

You've run the 0.338" have you?

Its not just about the lift, its about the ramp profile also.

I have fitted the 1056 cams to my motor, and can get the shims to lift off the bucket on one side turning the engine over BY HAND - so what do you think they'll do at 7000rpm? Shocked

Im running 0.35" lift, at somewhat more aggressive ramp than the Wade cams i have seen.
I havnt seen the 1056's though, so it could be different.

I've just put a pair of 288 degree 7.5mm lift Wade billets in my Bigport 4AGE and I'm very happy with them. But I run a 5.3:1 diff and microtech but still the standard manifold for the moment.

I pulled out the standard cams, replaced them with the billets, re-shimmed, re-tuned it and gained 8 rwkw and an extra 1300rpm of useable rev range. Still is quite drivable from about 2,800rpm onwards and has a very slightly lumpy idle at 1200rpm. It's got a bit of a dip in torque between 4,500 and 5,500 but temporarily removing the pod filter made that go away but it's back on now until I get the quads on.
