Pollution gear needed ? Wed, 24 August 2005 03:43 Go to next message
Im not sure if this is in the right section, but here goes. Ive got a 75 hj monaro, with a 308, i recently took it in for a roadworthy, and the mechanic said it needs to be fitted with the pollution gear crap. I was under the impression that cars made from 1976 onwards only had to be fitted with this.

Now the engine is not the one they released from factory, im unsure on the date that the engine was made. So my question is does the pollution stuff have to be fitted going by if the car is built after 1976 or going by if the engine was built after 1976.

Sorry that this is a non toyota related question, i just cant seem to find the anwser anywhere on the net.

Sounds like this RWC guy is a pain in the a$$.

A 1975 car does not require the pollution gear. If the engine is built after mid-1976 it should have the pollution equipment fitted to be legal. But how does the RWC guy know it is a 1976 or later engine? He may be going off the engine colour. If it's blue, tell him YOU painted it blue. (BLUE = pollution 308, RED = pre-pollution from memory.)
