TIMING ISSUES: PLZ HELP! Sun, 28 August 2005 10:31 Go to next message
Hey guys, I have an AE82 with a 4A-C. Blew the head gasket last week, so my dad and i changed it, cleaned the valves up etc. whilst puting the top end back together, my dad decided to rip all the polution gear out, and fuck around with the carby. today we put it all back together, and i cant seem to get the timing right. what do you guys suggest, and what is the best way to adjust the timing? any help would be greatly appreciated, also on the other hand, what do i need to do to get a 4A-GE 100kw to fit in my car? its a sedan, will i have any problems with the crossmember, and is it just a matter or wiring up the loom, or is there more to it. thanks

How far out's the timing? Have you checked it with a timing light?

I doubt the crossmember will be an issue as it's the same 4A bottom end.
You'll definitely need an efi fuel tank (or modify your existing one), possibly fuel lines, and depending on the tank a high pressure efi fuel pump. Then of course the electrical side of things.

When you change a lot of things at once and things go wrong then its always hard to find the cause. If you marked the dizzy position and timing then the timing should be the same as before. I reckon that you could have problems with the pollution gear removal and fuel mixture. If its running erratically then you'll have problems setting the timing anyway.
