Hi guys, I am in the process of the Gen3 1GGTE (auto ecu) + J160 into RA60 project.
The J160 has a speed sensor and my GA halfcut digi meter is using a cable.
My question is: Is there a speedo cable that I can use on the J160?
There are 3 pins on the speed sensor, anyway I can connect those to the meter so it replaces the speedo convertor thingy behind the meter?
Any help would be very much appreciated...

You should be able to remove the speed sensor and replace it with a cable drive from another Toyota box. Send a PM to Stenno, he did exactly that with his V160, I think he used a part from a Landcruiser or something? Anyway chances are you can do the same with your J160.
It would help if you could remove the sensor and post pics for us.

The convertor has 4 wires : earth, key on, signal and ???
While the speed sensor has a 3 pin socket, but without the socket I couldnt tell which one is what... I opened it up, there is just a disc on the inside attached to the gear and back of the black cover is just flat.
Sorry for the burry pic. Thanks again Norbie

That looks the same as the W5x speedo drive. Try grabbing one out of an RA60 gearbox and see if it fits.

Thanks Norbie, you are right : the 2 housings are the same. However, the J160 has 35 teeth, a bit more than the W57.
What I did was swap the gears, the diameters of the two shaft are the same but the J160s was shorter by about 1.5cm.
So I cut the W57 shaft (correct length of course), machined the tip to fit the J160s, MIG then machined the weld.
Thanks again.

You can probably just get a W5X speedo gear with 35 teeth Good to hear you got it working though.
