TD04 on 4AGZE

Has anybody done a FWD turbo conversion on a GZE using a TD04 i know a guy who is having trouble with oil return line positions and feeding lines being the wrong way up when turbo exhaust inlet housing is facing upward, any info would be good as to what some people have done, or suggest other turbos to use that are a good fit.

line positions can be solved by braided lines.. since you can flex them.
i'd be interested in what a TD04/05 is like on a 4age engine. whats the responce like, power etc

Depends on which TD04 you're using. Mitsu VR-4 and Subie WRX MY98 on (excluding STI) should be right.
If you're planning on rebuilding the turbo it doesn't matter because you can orientate the bearing housing anyway you like.

its from a 98 WRX, yeah thats what i thought about the turbo centre, is it possible to move it around your self or is this for a turbo specialist, with braided lines would u really want the drain line at the bottom so it drains better u dont want it flowing upwards do u?

So can u take the turbo apart to move the centre bearing housing around or does the shaft need to be realigned or anything else?

Also he says the wastegate actuator mounts would be on the wrong side and wants to know if he can turn the compressor housing aswell?

Yes, you can rotate both the exhaust & compressor housings to obtain the correct alignment for the oil drain. Rotating both housings the same amount will result in the wastegate actuator still lining up, but may mean that the compressor outlet is pointing at the motor or something stupid, in which case you might need to do some custom work to bolt the actuator in a different position.
Simon-AE86: Was that a serious answer, or are you taking the piss? I hope its the latter.

I understood that the drain from the turbo MUST be gravity fed downwards due to the turbo aerating the oil and making it "frothy" for want of a better word. High pressure won't do jack if the oil's already been aerated.
I've seen a car with a td04 gze setup. Had never been dynoed and was running the stock ecu. Response was immediate and had basically ZERO lag. Runs out of huff in the upper range but perfect for a quick streeter. He had also kept the TVIS operational.

Thank you to all those people who corrected simonAE86, mate if u arent sure i dont want to know. Well yes i always thought to myself that it must point downwards for some reason as every turbo i have ever seen has done so, i also remember reading it in a magazine which i found today which mentioned about the turbo airating the oil.
