4AGE Convert question Wed, 31 August 2005 03:26 Go to next message
Read an interesting article earlier today about converting a 4AGE from Efi to 2x45mm Carby set up...

Wondering if anyone knows the performance pro's and con's to this kind of setup.

(I'm not sure if this is meant to be posted here...)

its my opinion that a well sorted EFI setup will almost always outperform a carby setup, as well as being far more versatile and less tempremental.

EFI can adjust itself to get the perfect air/fuel ratio for different conditions..
a carby car cannot. eg. if it is tuned to run at its best on a hot summers day, then it wont be tuned properly for cold nights etc.

i guess a pro would have to be its simplicity though.

Can be done, has been done, but don't bother. Besides, good (and I use the word 'good' quite loosely!) 45's are generally pretty pricey these days...

Some of the pros are:
- quick throttle response
- you can run big cams without the cost of running an aftermarket computer, but of course you have the cost of setting up carbs...
- weight reduction from eliminating almost all of the loom required to run an EFI system

From what I've read you can get very similar performance to the same engine running a quad throttle setup and aftermarket computer but with a lower cost

I wasn't at all interested in doing it. Just curious as to why someone would go to effort of removing a full EFI setup to go back to carby's. Sure enough having no limiters would be nice every now and then. But... Nah not my scene.

Speaking of Aftermarket ECU's
Can anyone suggest where to look?
And other shops for:
Cams
Forged Pistons
quad throttle bodies
I recently bought a 4AGE but I want to rebuild it so it's MY engine when I'm done.

Thanks heaps Ppl
