Hi guys, I have stumbled across a complete live axle assembly from some sort of Hi-Lux.
No, the build pate from the vehicle was nowhere in sight.
General Description:
Width: approximately; 1400mm, drum face to drum face.
Input shaft offset; 65-70mm to RH side.
10 bolt housing, with one longer bolt at the 7:00 O'clock position.
Diff housing, to axle housing aperture approximately; 9" in diameter.
Without disassembling the whole thing, the crown wheel appears to be about 8" in diameter.
Three ribs on either side of the centre housing, the top rib, is actually continuous from left to right. ie, does not sit flush with the centre housing, but projects beyond it.
From memory(which is quite vague, being an old fart) this assembly looks nothing like the "F" series from a MKII Corona.
The Hi-Lux had been fitted with a 308 on gas, and this diff seems to be an overkill for a standard dual cab, so somewhere along the line, it has been swapped over.
Any help in identifying this diff would be greatly appreciated.
cheers Chuck.

What makes you think it's not the OEM diff? All Hilux's I've seen have an 8" G series diff, even the old ones with wheezing 12R engines.

Norbie, thanks for "All Hilux's I've seen have 8" G series diff"
Never been under a Hi-Lux, but from what you say, and what this beast looks like, sounds like a fairly safe bet, that it is a "G"
What would be a fair price, for open centre, and LSD versions.
It just seemed like a huge case of overkill for an early model dual cab 2WD ute.
thanks again, Chuck.

You won't find an LSD in an early Hilux. From what I've seen prices vary considerably for an early Hilux axle with open diff, anywhere from $100 to $500, so shop around! Once you have that you can go looking for an LSD centre, either OEM or aftermarket - and being G series there's plenty to choose from.
