Do you want an AM CB radio? Or a UHF radio?

Be careful to get the right thing. Otherwise if your mates have the other, you won't be able to communicate with them. AM CBs are harder to find now, but suspect there are plenty on ebay etc.

no.

They would both be on the AM wavelength though, would they not?

Come on, no need to shut me down with a one word "no" like that, I'm not trying to be smart here. I'm genuinely curious.

Oh and while your MR2 club may use AM, you would have to agree with me that the more widely accepted option as far as short range radio communication goes for cruises would be UHF radio....

sorry to be blunt Razz

yesh i agree most people have the UHF the mr2 club seem to be the oddity.

the AM CB radio's use 27Mhz iirc (someone correct me) where your car stereo AM radio uses arounf the 1.1-1.3Mhz area.

ah, i see. and the lower the frequency the further the range, is it not?

It would make sense that AM radio would have a reserved frequency anyway and that radio recievers would only pick them up.

i clip mine onto my sunshade in front of me, then just reach up and press the button

or when i was using a vox one, just use VOX.

but then you cant listen to the radio.

CB's are hours of amusement when on a cruise, or when you live near a freeway like me. Someone with an AM one fucked my radiocontrolled car though, it started jumping backwards and forwards and then died, it ran on 27Mhz ahhhh.

Yeah, the NSW MR2 club uses AM. We started using them probably before UHF became pretty popular with the hand-held models.

We got put onto them by the MX5 club, and have not looked back since. They add so much fun to a cruise as some people here have already explained.

We get pretty good range out of them. Certainly enough so that the front and back car can communicate - even when there are over 20 cars spread out. The range isn't as great in hilly or windy roads, but good enough for our purposes.

Yes, we are different now in that most people do use UHF (even MR2 club in VIC), however being different is part of MR2 ownership Wink
