ems ecu Sat, 27 August 2005 05:54 Go to next message
hi guys. i recently bought a rolla with a 4agze setup connected to an ems computer,

the problem i am having is to find a stock 4agze computer to get rid of the ems ecu, its not the stinger series but im curious about if this is a wise decision after speaking to a mechanic at is motor racing helping me out

would this be a wise decision switching the ecu back?

and does anybody have the contact number for rigoli's workshop?

thanks for reading my post

ahhhh if the ems computer has been tuned well you will loose power when seitching back to the stock gze computer... You will also need a complete GZE wiring loom and possibly afm. The only reason i can think of that you would want to change the ecu back is legality reasons....

not entirely.. the mechanic told me that ems wasnt a great brand ecu due tot he reasons that the idle was too low and it constantly needs a re-tune

i didnt even show him my car and he was right Confused

think its best if i got back to the stocker till i saved up for a better one like microtech lt8 or power fc

and also for legality reasons Very Happy

Indy just doesnt want to touch it becuase its aussie brand.

i went there before his a nice guy and all. but there's other workshops out there.

ems isn't bad you need a tuner not a mechanic. try adam at Just engine managements morebank.

what setup are you running chassis, engine etc?

and you can't just plug in a stock ecu to think it will be better. you need to redo the loom ecu's arent just plug and play. you'll also need to use the stock coils and ignition setup if you decide to go stock ecu.

yeh thats the guy i spoke to actually, i was introduced to him by my tafe teacher Laughing (tourism)
and its true he loves his asian stuff
he must love me too lol Razz

right now its 4agze from the aw11 in a flatback ae82 with a few goodies, i bought it off my mate and he got it tuned at rigoli's i was curious to try them out.

SW20R: how do you rate just engine garage in comparison to other garages?

i also emailed bel garage and they hate to tune ems as they said its not a real time ecu Confused i was referred to F&E Mechanicals and was wondering if anybody knew any info about them.

thanks for the input guys

rigoli are an official distributer for ems so they would know their sh*t when it comes to the stinger

yeh i got mine tuned from rigoli's V&E keep that in mind

it roughly was quoted 160 for the first hour and 80 dollars every hour after that

my idle sucks balls though after the tune.. it idles at 500 if im lucky and then obviously dies out... on startup

any ideas other than a wongky tune?

Give RICOL a try. They specialise in EMS and did an awsome job with Josh's pink AE86.

rigoli didnt tuned it properly ? fark it seems the 4agze with ems struggle , mine runs fine after it has warmed up , its like cold start is not connected, i warm it up by giving gas at 1g to get it warm then the car runs ok , but idle hovers

my ems runs fine... why does the ems need to be retuned if anything i like that ecu beter it has flash memory so you dont need to get it retuned if you kill the ecu's power for months

nobody wants to pay over 500 bucks for a very good tune

that is why most cars with aftermarket ecus run shit

mind u some tunes cost alot more and are a shit job

basically u need to state to tuner

u want very good job

pay for a good job

get idle good

get cold start good which means testing it over 3 days

and get good power

so if u want all of the above and u do not want to spend alot of money then you have nothing to whinge about

tell the tuner if yr goin to pay for a good tune u want a good tune or u will bring it back

otheriwse take it to another tuner

there is not many goo dtuners these days that are consistent

people ask me who to tune it these days and i dont reply with anyone anymore

no one gives a fuk anymore
when doin top quality work

you get what you pay for

pay penuts you get monkeys

good tuners should be able to get close to the money the first time but tuning is an ongoing thing not a put it in the shop pick it up the next day thing

i got a map ems dual sport

sorry dude, i reccommend you dont touch the ecu unless you know what your doing, thats my 2 cents, rather pay it to get it pro done or jus leave it as is

i think it should have a sticker like kids toys

not recommended for 5 years and under

i have ems duel sport it idle's fine and i dont have to keep getting its re-tune. To me this makes no sense its a computer that retains its tune if the car dies in power or something is different then a retune will be required with any ecu.
I would swear by EMS love it.

i'd recomend JEM @ Moorebank as well.

Haven't used him personally but many a friend has with no complaints at all.

Cheers

Nathan

PS this is also pretty much what the shop does instal and tune.

Dont know how reliable these maps would be. Go down to the 4424 map if you have the newest stinger and check the 4agze one.
there are a few maps on there for the different series engines.

Anyone know who the best tuner of ems is yet.
MR.2 who tuned your dual sport?

yeah i know someone that is great however i have a incident with him very recently (f*^ked part of my car) and not claming the responsiablity, so i will not refer anyone to him nor whill i be procceding to go back to him. So i am in the same boat, i need to find some very good EMS tuners.
I do know some very good ones.
Steve - from premmier (old dyno days used to be done there)
Rigols (ask for the old man to do it)
and heard good things from JEM also.

I am in need of a tune soon (after i fix the damn problem cause by the wanker) i am going to go to steve and then from there i am going to see if rigolis can better the tune. If not then i will try JEM I will let you know.

The guys at WM Motorsport in Brendale Brisbane kick ass when it comes to EMS and tuning in general. Personally, after experience with Sydney dickheads where you don't get what you pay for, I send my car on a car carrier to QLD and get rebuilding/mechanical work done and great job that is tuned how you would expect it to be then shipped back for for same if not cheaper price than Sydney monkeys.

Do your own research too. If you believe what you hear from different shops there wouldn't be anything worth buying on the market. It's very much a matter of if they don't stock it/back it then it's shit or doesn't work. Most times it's due to their own ignorance of a product which leads them to those conclusions.

hitman performance in penrith is good , you can often find several race cars outside waiting for tuning , with various management systems in them , though he specialises in haltec (agent for them) often i have been down there and seen him tuning lotus 7 clubman racers (mostly 4ag motors) he has gotten a reputation for good work, and a fair price, also has dyno for tuning.
