SA63 - 5me Mon, 12 September 2005 09:36 Go to next message
My old man is buying a newer smaller car at the same time as my mother is upgrading to a newer car.
So he won't be using his SA63 anymore and i didn't want to sell it seen as tho it's the only car with a towball.

So instead of using the 5me for my Go kart i was thinking of replacing the tired old 2sc with the 5me.
I know it's just replacing shit with slighty bigger shit but it would have to be an improvement.

either that or i might be able to bolt it into my white celica untill i find a cheap 1g.

So what do u guys think ?
swap the 2sc with the 5me ?
also how hard would it be to replace the blown 1g with the 5me untill i can find another one ?

Thanks in advance for your replies guys.
Mookie

just remember mookie - sa63 = small engine bay. ma61 = large engine bay. for the cost you'd have to go through to get the 5m in there, it's prolly not worth it (I seriously doubt clutch fan setup would fit for a start). and not really worth an efi upgrade to install the 5m (although I'm sure there's stacks of people on here willing to donate spare 5m engines to you)

yeah thats what i figured,
it's a cheap motor with spare parts everywhere.
i know the SA63 engine bay is small ibut i figure it will fit with some modifying.

Umm,

5ME = teh lest likely engine to be voted 'performance' eva

This is 600% the worst idea in the world. 600%.

I mean we could go on to say that you should just get a MA61 if you want a 5me, and list the fact that toyota changed a lot of things (chassis wise, pretty well everything forward of the firewall Razz) when they put the 5me into the MA61.

You could do it tho, it would also be gay tho Very Happy

it'll fit, it just won't bolt straight in. you'd have to fab up plenty of stuff (engine mounts for a start), and basically do everything you'd have to do for a real conversion... which really isn't worth it for 5m powah

We... It will not be fun trying to fabricate stuff to get the 5M to fit...

Go and contact Viper_Nipplex and buy his half complete 3SGTE that he was going to put into his SA63 until he found out the SA63 Chassis is rusted out Sad

I suggest saving up all your turds for the next two weeks, and replacing the 2S-C with that Wink

Serious, 5me's are not special.

If you want something 'fun' why not get a cheap 3sge, rebuild it and convert it to RWD Smile

My dads got a 7M in his RA65, the radiator is in the normal position and he has even retained the engine fan!

If you want to learn and have a play with modifying cars do the conversion to the 5M, just keep it in the back of your mind that the 5M is a boat anchor... But hey its all fun and games Very Happy

I'm assuming the bellhousing won't fit the 5m is that correct ?
what bellhousing could i use ?
or will i have to replace the whole gearbox ?

so you guys are saying the engine won't fit and it's a stupid idea ?

you want to stuff a 6cyl motor where a 4cyl once resided... so it will be a tight fit - why is this difficult to understand?

You also want to replace one turd (2S) with another (5M)? (so continuing with the scatological theme) it's like shitting your pants, removing them to empty out the wet stuff, then putting them back on. When a baby shit's it pants - what do you change?

If you want a tow car then the factory-designed-gutlessness it not ideal - at all.

With the 7M's long history of head-gasket fragility is any M-engine a suitable for towing heavy things?

In summary, i think a 5me-powered SA63 doing tow duty is the epitomy of stupidy.

i like celicas so i would like to keep this car.

I know it's a big motor but i really think it could fit i also know that the engine bay isn't as big as it looks with the 2sc in there.

but the 2sc is on the way out and i will need to tow my car to get it fixed anyway.

The basic idea is
it's a challenge.
it will cost next to nothing.
i will learn stuff.

so in the end i should end up with
knowledge
and a tow car.
I'm pretty tempted

Hey, I'll take that. I'm serious. My ST141 Corona of Death threw a rod last summer and has been sitting in the yard ever since.

If you want to learn something.

Either
A) Rebuild the 2S
B) Replace the 2S with another 2S
C) Remove the 1GGTE from your car, and install it in this car.

All of the above will gain you plenty of knowledge and hands on experience, while not creating a headache and a car that will be almost useless.

Put the 5M in the SA63. You obviously want to do it in spite of the advice given, so stop asking if it's a good idea and just do it already.

We could all use the entertainment anyway. Laughing

lol i know it's a bad idea and pretty pointless but for a person in my situation it's pretty good.

it seems it's one of the silliest ideas i've ever had.
we will see what happens when it gets here.

will it bolt up to the w55 ?
that would be the main thing holding me back.

if you are dead serious abbout putting that 5m in Rolling Eyes then get a MA61 M-->W5x gearbox , or bellhousing at least.

the other option is a corona mkII M series bellhousing for a W40/50.

either way, you will need to spend a fair bit of money sorting these little things out (bellhousing/radiator/mounts/etc).

money that could be spent reviveing a 2s

may as well do it though, seems that you decision is already preset Confused
