been playing on a regular basis of once a month. just woundering if any one ellse plays?
poker nights are great fun...

few drinks
poker
= alot of noise fun and money.
does any one who plays bet or just play for the hell of it?

No limit hold 'em is the best. I don't even consider it gambling because it's so fun 
Other kinds of gambling or even poker don't compare to hold 'em.
I play online with pokerroom.com and bugsy. Haven't played for real in a while. Time to get some chips methinks.

Yeah, right up it. Mate bought a big set of chips off ebay, went shopping today for a card shuffler and caddy. Setting up a regular night with a bunch of mates.
Good for a few beers and a muck around, even got a poker alter-ego that makes an appearance... just need a few beers and a visor and aviators

thanks to you, im now hooked on pokerroom.com 
wouldnt mind havin a go at the real thing though, either in this game or in real life against some mates, might see if any of my mates would be up for a poker game every now and then

Poker nights out are definately awesome You NEED the chips though... it just adds that authentic feel and they're far easier to play with.
Best way to do so no-one cracks a shit or asks to lend cash or whatever is to get all the cash upfront and change it into chips... if you need more, you can change more, otherwise you're out of the game. We generally start off with $80 a person and go from there.

poker ey, i been playing for a couple of years now, own a hell of alot of Poker DVD's, WSOP tournaments etc, 1st series of TILT on dvd etc.
Play a regular game at my place once a month, have 3 tables going, usually $100 buy in, winner takes all, usually around $2000 depending on players lol, average is usually around 15.
Its so much fun, and out of all forms of gambling, its the only form you can make a living out of as the odds are in your favour.
Should ave a toymods Poker night one time and get a full tournament happening make it once a year?

Nah Eddie don't change the dosh for chips exactly.
What you do is everyone gets the same amount of chips to start off with and you keep playing until the game ends.
This way nobody can keep putting in more money and people won't walk away from the game as soon as they've got a decent amount of money. I know that's not so realistic I suppose but you're playing with mates and it's SO MUCH more fun this way.
Assuming you have 8 players:
Split the money
1st place - 5/8
2nd place - 2/8
3rd place - 1/8 (get their money back)
So if everyone puts in $20.
1st place - $100
2nd place - $40
3rd place - $20
Or if you and your mates are learning start off with
1st place - $80
2nd place - $60

This is a variation of the first way, it only varies 1st and 2nd places.
3rd Place still gets their money back -- the other $20.

haven't played poker for ages, used to play it or a game called 13 when we had free periods at school (no money involved).
I got hooked on watching the world poker tournaments when they were on on friday and saturday nights on channel ten and sbs previously. Different style of game to what i was used to but i understand it now.

Yeah in school we played different. Everyone has to ante and it's a max raise of 5 chips and each chip was 50c. We had enough for 5 people to have 20 bux each lol.
Big 2 is the better version of 13

Thinking of starting a poker game with mates, just wondering if anyone has got a set of chips of ebay, the 500 chip sets are they worth while getting or is there some where better/cheaper to get them?

I'm trying to make poker nights a regular thing with a group of my mates. I just picked up some chips. The last time we had a pokwer night we just played for the hell of it.
If we do introduce money, it'll have to be in the placings prize type deal, 1st,2nd,3rd kinda thing. Otherwise i could always outbid my mates, as I work full time, and most of them are uni bums.

im having a poker night tonite...6 ppl $20 each money split to 1st 2nd 3rd somehow havnt figured it out yet...it will be mad fun i havnt played in a month or 2 so it should be good...ive got a bar in my room which will be right next to the table and the fridge is stacked as always..

does anyone know a good site where i can get the rules for poker. considering theres a couple of differnt types...i think.... i know the basic jist but as it starts to get higher up (like royal flush and those sorta things) i dont know what beats what?
just like an easy way of learning the rules.....
and a way to convine the girls to play strip poker

no limit texas holdem is the shit go to www.pokerroom.com you can play play money or real money aswell as get a shot at the world poker tour .
Also kmart has a fold out poker table with rules cards and chips
seats 8 i think they are on special at the moment for $47
me and my house mates bought one and it is the most fun ive had for 50 bucks in ages

l prefer ultimatebet.com... there's tournaments you can join, and there's also this ultimate point system, but i'll let you's check it out for yourselfs...

how come i didnt see this thread sooner, im in the shire too, if anyone starts another game i'd be up for it for sure
used to play euka, hearts, 500 then poker with some mates, but they got over it, i used to go to partypoker(dot)com but i hate it there now.  they suck, dont use them
if your thinking of taking the fake to real money step, its freakin hard, but this would be a good, and cheap, way to do it, (ie starcity has a minimum of $100 bye-in), the only advice worth having when you go to a casino, - "be prepared to lose all the money that you bet", because you probably will

they have poker comps at crown every thursday and one of the weekend days. its $35 to enter. 10 players on the table, top 3 gets cash.
