KE55 coupe, 4age conversion Sun, 18 September 2005 10:12 Go to next message
Hello, About 10 months ago i perchused a blue KE55 coupe, The car was totally standard, had a straight body and 150,000kms on the clock. When i first set out i was going to buy an imported 100kw motor and put it in the 55. When MACCA put his KE55 up for sale which allready had a 86kw 4age I decided to buy that, convert it to manual and drive it around. When i picked up the car and drove it back down to tassie we had some problems but got it down there ok. When we checked it throurghly we found that the body was pretty rough, with both bog and rust and the entire arse end had received a big bump. So we decided to swap all the running gear into the blue corolla which had a strait body and a good interior. Im in the process of doing this now and I just thaught i would show everyone. SO here are the pics

Those wheels are for sale if anyone wants them as is that steering wheel with boss kit

The celica struts and brakes are going in to for some better breaking up front with help from some bendix ultimate pads and rebuilt callipers. All suspension in the blue corolla is handled by monroe gas shocks, 2" lowering blocks in the back and 2" lowered springs in the front. The white corolla had monroe gas shocks in the back which will also be up for sale if anyone wants em oh and lowered springs in the front which will also be sold.

The blue corolla no longer has the super sedan mercedies hubbies and now rolls on celica 14" steelies and 185/60 recaps all round. Other than a sports steerer and sitting a little lower than the average bear the blue corolla should be a bit of a sleeper when its finished up and had a respray.

More updates when progress is made.

Well ive been getting bits ready for the conversion, because the old setup had a gay auto setup ive had to get a few things ready to convert to manual, ive got my hands on a 86kw flywheel, clutch and pressure plate which i hope will be fine, a bellhousing and T-50, corona master and slave cylinder for the hydralic setup and hopefully the tailshaft should fit in without any trouble. Ive got some cams which should give a bit of poke but cant remember the specs off the top of my head but ill get the sheet soon, they are wade cams from memory.anyway ill post up some pics.

I baught a complete celica front end for 80 bucks from the wreckers, this was initally very cheep but in the end was more expensive. The strut inserts where leaking and stuffed, one of the brake disks was rooted and one of the control arms bent. So after another trip to the wreckers and 70 bucks later I got another disk and control arm. I got the disks machined at co op toyota for FREE! and monroe gas shocks from bursons for $172.73 and I think that the bendix untimate pads where like 50 bucks. So that brings it to a grand total of like $372.73 which first was estimated at being about a $200 job.

Well after giving the motor a service and a bit of a clean up its almost ready to go in, just need a set of extractors and some engine mounts. so if anyone has some tuned length 4-2-1 extractors for a 4age let me know!
Just a quick pic of the 4ag ready to go

Thanks for the replies, Not sure what happened to the orange corolla, When I was there to pick up the white corolla he had the only other toyota there was a white KE55 sedan in pretty bad shape which he picked up for like 50 bucks or somthing. Hopefully ordering some 4-1 stainless steel extractors sometime this week from Anthony Kellam. Still trying to get hold of some engine mounts.
Thanks,
Spode

Well, thanks to Ian (agp2002), Ive managed to get hold of some engine mounts which I hope will be ok. Have just been dummying up my pedal box with brake master and clutch master to see how everything sits. Fortunatley KE55s have a hole in the firewall and bolt holes perfectly suited for a hydralic clutch which is taken up by the speedo cable. All that needs to be done is a mount for the clutch pedal on the side of the pedal box which shouldnt be too difficult. This is a pic will the masters bolted up before the pedal box is modded. Its an auto pedal box btw.

Glad to help, hope the engine mounts do fit, as they are no use to me. I still cleaning my engine bay to paint, cant wait to get my engine in. Keep up the good work Tom.
