ke55 coupe rims Sun, 03 July 2005 10:23 Go to next message
Hey I am keen to get some 17" rims for my ke55 coupe & I was just wondering if a 114.5 x 4 stud pattern would fit? Is there any other mods needed before they would fit. The car is stock at the mo.

Cheers
Chris.

Uhh.. A larger car maybe??

Seriously, 17", why? You'll be running on a rubber band..

If you REALLY MUST HAVE 17's, go to a wheel place and buy them new, that way they'll fit just right. Plus, you'll be able to see what they look like first.

Personally, I consider 17's way to big for a KE55 Rolla. They are factory fitted with 13's, so you'd really be f'd if the cops wanted to pull you over. Smile

Ok far enough Embarassed what would u suggest? 15" or 16"?? Is 114.5x 4 the right PCD? What offset would I need? I know a guy selling some 16 X 7" 4x114.3 +38 offset, would these be suited? Or shouyld I just stick to say 14"'s? Sad

whats the regulations in your area? in qld you are allowed 2 rim sizes bigger, so from 13 to 15 inch. 17's might be too wide as well as being heavier and having rubber band tyres which isnt the best idea. rims that are 114.3 x 4 pcd with the corolla offset arent too common, only a few wheels will fit, mainly mass produced multifits that come in many offsets, eg vault crystals.

the widest wheels for the front are probably 6 inch, and for rears can be quite wide with the correct offset. if you are after a matched set, ie same size and width front and rears then you would be limited to about 17 x 6 with with uber low profiles. i recommend 15 x 6 with 195/50/15's.

my choice mz10 soarer rims 15 x 6 114.3 x 4 pcd +20 offset
wrapped in 195/50/15 kumho 712's.

other 15 inch rims include trx mags, sigma pepperpots, sigma turbo rims, r31 skyline silloutte mags, some need spacers.

That offset sounds heaps to big...

16's are more reasonable, 15's are a sweet spot though.

Some other stock rims that fit well are Silvia 15's, 4 stud. I personally think they look great. Smile

Looks like that.

are there any limits to the tyres u have with them?

How about 205/60/15 ? or is better to go 175 width?

PRETTY sure that I've got 205's on mine... I'll double check for you later.

But I would suggest slightly smaller, maybe 195's, because they are just a little bit to close to the strut (ie. rubbing).

KE corolla you will want no more than 185 tyres.. more than that and you lose traction imho.

17's? it's been done but doesn't look good and you need to have them engineered (which is pretty wasteful on a stock car)

offset might be around the +15 area for a 6"wide rim..

just go to a shop and buy them new.. a grand or a bit more and you have rims that fit with new tyres anyway...

Uhh.. No, I've actually got 195's on it, and they were to big. Smile

I have got XT130 struts, which have a slightly larger offset, so the 195's don't rub anymore, but they used to rub against the strut on the front.

So, 185 or less.

hmmmmm. I have had two different wheel offsets on mine with 205s and neither have rubbed the strut.

back in the day, race kiddies would run 185 or 195's.

imho, 15x6 rim with 185 or 195 50 series tyre OF GOOD QUALITY.. get the best tyre you can afford, will give you the best results..

no point having 205 tyres if they are shit quality..

look at falkens, yoko's etc etc..

there is no substitute for a good tyre. think of it as upgrading your brakes at the same time as you will have more stoppign power Razz

i wana run 15x8 with a really low offset casue i want alot of dish. i was thinking about using 205/50/15 if not ill go 195/55/15 but thats with a 20v putting power through them.

stu.. still overkill?

i take it you are enginering the rims then?

what does KE30 weigh? you may be limited by law to 7" rims.
i can only go 6" on the KE1X

dish... now thats a stoopid reason to run wide tyres.. you know this fad will blow over Razz

meh, 20V is still just a 1.6NA Wink no more torque than a 16V, and not that much mroe torque than a built 4K Laughing

umm well anythings possible right? engineering... well if i cant get em engineered then i guess ill have to put them on something else like a ke70 or soemthing. its not really going to be a daily driver and will spend alot of its completed life in the garage.

dish isnt the reason i want wide rims, casue its easily achieved by running a low offset. its jsut i have this image in my head of how i want my car to look and its pretty particular so yeah.

and yes i know 20v is still pissy but maybe down the track might try to turbo it or even go against karl's advise and supercharge itf its a worthwhile activity.

you can only change track by 25mm = 12.5mm per side, so you won't get a big change in offset engineered either Wink

have a chat to an engineer about what would be needed to _safely_ run the look you want Smile
