Jamboree this year Mon, 19 September 2005 06:31 Go to next message
Hey guys,
don't know how many people went from here. I had a great time and met a couple of new people.

I was entered in ET2 as my car is too light for Sport RWD. Scrutineering said it was fine until they checked that it had a 4 cylinder Razz (1jz corona)

Had a good time racing on Saturday and then got to watch the hardcore guys in the arvo and night. I qualified with a backing off 13.76@103mph with a 2.54 50ft Razz. My best MPH was 108.5 so the car isn't making as much power as it should. That equates to around 210rwkw @15psi. I worked out that I badly need a decent stall converter and also taller diff gears. (stock stall and 4.6:1 diff ratio) I had to change into OD before the finish line which I thought may have happened but wasn't exactly sure. Once it goes into OD it doesn't want to rev anymore and just sits at 5200rpm as verified by datalogger.

Sundays racing came and I thought I was lined up with a fairly regular wrx but instead was matched with a crazy vw that dialled in 10.55 and got towed in! I got a decent reaction time (for my standards) and wound it out. was .24 off my dial in so I was very lucky as the vw ran a 10.466 so broke out by .004 Razz Was good to see how fast 130mph is. And the chute he has worked bloody awesome. Pulled up a lot quicker than my car from 108mph.

Next round was against a wrx and I stuffed up as didn't get enough revs off the line (not that I could get much anyway) bogged down more than usual and was chasing hard but the 60ft time was even slower than usual so I was out for the day.

I didn't get to see 1jz-747 run but he qualified with a 10.9 but my friend said he got knocked out in the first round. I am sure he will clarify.

Met Craig who owns GIHOOK and that car is a real quality piece of work.

Met Dori Dori who was driving the cyborg for the weekend but was having weird problems.

Also met the guy who owns the 2jz Mercedes that has been posted around here a couple of time. He was running 13.7's on 10psi with a near stock 2j.

I was out putting my headlight back in when Pac ran 6.94@194 in the mx6 so I was pissed at that! But my mate got it on camera so that was good.

Overall, had a great time and learnt a lot about my car and will be running better times by next year Very Happy

*ps hope I didn't forget anyone that I met as I have terrible memory* Smile

bloody well done chris!

once you get the convertor and the ignition sorted out you'll be looking for a stronger diff as well as different gears Wink

cheers, Charles.

Captain Chaos: my previous PB wasn't such a hard target as long as I didn't stuff up like last time Very Happy How did your car end up going? I didn't see you on Sunday. I had some footage of one of your runs but the quality of footage by either my dad or gf was a bit zoomed in and shaky and didn't see the time boards so didn't really know what happened.

smt-007: thanks for the pic Smile That bmw behind me was impressive. m3 engine transplant with N2O.

Charles: thanks mate Smile I reckon the old Mitsu diff should be just as strong as any Hilux diff even if they don't have the "unbreakable" slogan. Razz

chris: i was there sunday, but just wasnt my day.... in the shakedown pass first thing in the morning, a problem arose where on launch, the car would seemingly die in the ass like it was starving of fuel, then would clear its throat about the 60ft mark and go hard. we thought we had sorted it, but it arose again in first round eliminations and cost me the race. it did run nearly 116mph once the car did get mooving though.... i Pb'd on sat with 12.03s @112mph after a poor 2nd - 3rd change (ie limiter). i am gunna fix the surge issue, then hopefully run wsid in a wed or two time.
did any of you guys see that 2jz torana? it gets a BIG thumbs up from me. love his work!

I saw your car in the pits area so I thought something mustn't have gone too well. It is a shame after coming all that way. But we are glad you guys come up as it makes it a great event with lots of out of towners coming to race.

Congrats on the PB but a bit unlucky to miss out on the 11! At least you didn't have to argue with the officials about licencing Smile

2 questions I forgot to ask: are you still on stock turbos? And do you use a wet or dry n2o kit?

I was told about this mystery torana a couple of weeks back at a party. Mentioned that it was really fast and that the whole front cut was bought with that turbo kit and everything and it was bolted into the torana. Thought the dude was exaggerating at the time but it seems that he wasn't! 9.58@137mph with a wheelstand using N2O was bloody awesome! I was pissed that he got knocked out in the first round as it was improving every run.

chris: using a 40hp wet shot to help with the launch. the stock turbos went 4 1/2 years ago in favour of 2 rb20 ones. they are severely stressed but refuse to die. i am on the lookout for a couple of rb25 turbos at the right price though. i dont want to put the big plenum, autronic or bigger fuel system on it until it hit the 11s........ might just have to wait another week or two. yes chris that info was right

i went 10.91 off the trailer, 1.60 sixty foot and 125 mph. i was happy with that as it was into a very stiff head wind, 90 kph apparently, so the commentators were saying.

i then went 11.0 11.05 11.2 the MPH was down a fraction and the 60 foot times were in the 1.6 and 1.8's

i was basically trying to be consistant at this meet and keep up my form from the last 2 meeting finishing in the finals.

unfortunatley, my brain got in the way. in eliminations i deep staged, which according to the rule book results in being red lit (disqualified) so i put it in reverse to get both beams up, as i was getting it back into forward drive the tree counted down and i left in second gear resulting in a 1.2 reaction time and a 2.1 sixty foot. thus getting beat. to say i am ans was pissed off at myself would be an understatement. i had the most consistant car in my class. but thats racing and i will make sure i dont do it again.

my tuner did a similar thing, didnt cocentrate, looking at a easy win and his thumb slipped off the trans brake button on the 2nd amber.

we (rx engineering racing) were happy overall with our weekend, all cars drove onto the trailer, we had 2 guys win there classes. all our cars got good publicitym CRITTA got interviewed for the OPTION videos.

BF GOODRICH displayed interest in some form of deal for me.

congrats to chris and GIHOOK for their new PB's. just wait for GIHOOK to get a functioning gearbox, 11's are there.

it was good too meet chris and MR DOHC, 1j180 from the forums and numerous other people.

cant wait for november to rock around and do it all again on home soil.

i hope people that got to see appreciated my third gear lock up clutch burnouts past the sixty foot marker, as the BF's didnt like it so much, still they have lasted a year so thats not to bad

shane
