quick jambo update Sat, 17 September 2005 22:12 Go to next message
just giving some of u a quick update on how the jambo went yesterday.

since the Online CRX was crashed a while back, the Online boys built a all motor CRX in 8 weeks to compete this weekend, has tube chassis front end and all, ran in the low 11's

The "DENTIST" RX3 barrel rolled very voilently 4 or 5 times, pulled the chute and the massive winds just snapped the car hard right

1JZ-747 {which they once called 2JZ-727 over the PA Confused } ran a 10.8 with upto 50kph head winds, also ran a 10.91 and a few 11.2, all either 124 or 125mph

chris davey brought his 1JZ corona down, ran much better times, ended up running a 13.99 at 108mph, didnt hit boost till 300ft either

GIHOOK ran into the low 12's on street tyres

this 2JZ-GTE merc ran very slowly, a low 15 i think

How awesome was that Celsior!!! Mewants. Very Happy

I was a bit disappointed in Chris Davey's Corona, I was expecting much better than 108mph from a 1JZ with a big single, considering my basically stock 2JZ ran 117mph in a heavier car. I'm guessing he still has a lot of sorting out to do?

Sounds like chris is in urgent need of a tricked valve body from MV automatics for the A340 and a different converter.

still - it's better than the original visit (engine dies while removing car from trailer) to Willowbank.

I'm not so surprised considering he hasn't extracted the digit ( Smile Chris)and got the Wolf controlling the spark. The poor thing is probably seeing +3 degrees timing on boost (or something like that) thanks to Mr Toyota...........

Car definitely needs sorting.

Was second time to the strip and first time I have even made a full pass.

The options were to try and get heaps of shit done before Jamboree and risk not being finished in time (99% chance of that) or run it how it is, have some fun and get a baseline figure and work out what needs to be done in the future.

After the weekend I know that I need taller gearing as I had to change into OD at about 105mph resulting in steady revs at 5200rpm for some reason?

Need a decent stall. Already knew that but was unsure what rpm to get. I think I will look into a smaller converter than the stock one and not worry about the lockup as it is only a weekender and I really don't think a 3400rpm stall is going to help that much as I am not seeing positive boost until around 4100rpm in 1st gear.

Need to manualise the auto so that it shifts straight away instead of having to back off to make it shift.

Need to get the wolf doing timing so I actually know what it is doing. I was running a toluene mix in it so that it wouldn't pull the timing but there is no way for me to tell if it is working.

I know the car isn't making as much power as it should at the moment and I am going to be doing these things and checking other stuff to improve on that.

I hope I live up to expectations next time Laughing
