They were delivering "moonshine", which is illegal home distilled whiskey.

Yeah, of the course the driving was awesome... Rhys Millen was behind the wheel! He is legendary hillclimb king Rod Millen's son, and drives the American GTO drift car. He is also doing the driving in Fast and the Furious 3, touge style, so maybe there is hope for the movie yet...

I thought the movie was quite well done, the car scenes were very entertaining.
For any of you that have seen super troopers you MUST go and see this, most of the main characters are in it, and even a few lines from super troopers have made it in (the stoner car scene), is certainly a good laugh,

Cheers

Ha ha!

"Mother of God" Laughing

And Ben, yeah, you can drift a muscle car. Muscle cars get very tail happy 'cuz their suspension isn't up to the task of handling all that torque. It's just not as easy to controll the drift as it is with a lighter car. (or so I hear)

I thought this movie was great. Very funny! It's nice when Americans actualy poke fun at themselves, rather than taking themselves so seriously.

I was kind of dissapointed in how it was nothing like the tv at all.

Just a few things that didn't match up.

The general lees doors never opened they are welded shut because the general lee is a stock car.

But in jessica simpsons video and the 1st part of the movie they work.

In the show the duke boys would never touch moonshine uncle jesse used to run it, but due to the duke boys being on probation they can't have anything to do with it.

Also rosco the cop isn't scary at all annd nobody listens to him
Boss hog is also alot harder on him on tv.

That all makes me sound like i was expecting a bit too much, maybe i was.

But i loved the car chases and how they stirred up so much shit and caused so much trouble but didn't get in shit for it.

I thought it was fairly good . . . Not that I can remember the T.V. series particularly well. I was relieved that the writers/director used Jessica Simpson as eye-candy and NOTHING ELSE ! Very Happy Laughing Laughing Laughing

I thought alot of the jumps while overdone, were pretty "entertaining" - if only for the cringe-factor when you realise that ANOTHER Charger was about to be completely written off ! ! ! SOO many jumps in the film were obviously on their way to ending badly, with the main shot cut short, with another angle showing the landing..

Anyone know how many General Lee's died to make the movie?

Dunno, but if you watch the out-takes, the jump onto the freeway ends badly when the suspension hits the bump stops and the stunt man loses controll of the car and spins into a barrier. Also, the first jump over the closed bridge ends up with the car doing a nose dive and landing face first then flipping upside down. So atleast 2 died to make the movie (although the jump onto the freeway crash may have been recoverable).

I think half the reason so many of the awkward landings ended so badly is that all the BIG jumps were done Via. remote control - MythBusters style from a chase-car ! !

No they'd probably still nose dive a little, but not as much. Depends on the aerodynamics of the car too.

I just did some tests with a pen in the office, and if I throw it heavy side first, it dives bad. If I throw it light side first it still dives, but not as badly.

Same as the chase scene with Elanor in Gone in 60 seconds. When Cage jumps the 'stang over the tow truck, when it lands it actually seriously fucks up and the car gets trashed, but in the film the shot cuts away to a shot of Cage swerving all over the road.
Lets just hope it was a replica of the car that got wrecked, cos there kinda rare now by Mustang standards.

Actually the car isn't fucked in that scene what happens is it jumps and crashes into some boxes/ foam stuffs and the rest after about halfway thru the jump is computer animated, then the next take (the landing) is just a smaller jump. For all out carnage nothing will beat the blue brothers. Wink

27 cars were fucked up
i heard it in an mtv interview with knoxville.

they would lauch one over a massive jump then write that off
then they would launch another over a smaller jump and film the landing

It's all to do with how hard the rear suspension kicks the rear of the car on take-off. Proper stunt-ramps have a set of mini-ramps, that collapse after the front wheels have taken-off. This gives the front-end enough extra height/vertical velocity to avoid the classic end-over dive.

The answer to this question can be found in herbie reloaded, beetles can also to wheelies and rail slides due to their rear engine configuration.
