T18 tailshaft will be a different length... And where the fook did you get a THREE speed manual gearbox from???!!111oneoneone
Usually there isnt a code on a gearbox, only way to find out what it is is to open it up. I'd say its either a K50 (5 speed), or in a very rare case, a K40 (4 Speed)... I don't think K30s even exist.. Sure you havent got a K50 with completely busted synchros on 4th and 5th? ahhaha.

i'm guessing he meant the 3 speed auto traumatic...
afaik, the traumatics have a different output spline to both the K50 and also the T50, since it is basically a holden part.. (almost same as the 6cyl traumatics??)
so it is unlikely to be able to fit a T18 shaft into the trimatic box, if that is what you are trying to achieve?

K bellhousing doesnt come off, its a full cast unit, you would have to get a T-K series bellhousing, which i suspect would be hard to find.
Not sure if the T18 tailshaft will fit into your gearbox output, in theory it should, but it would make you wonder why people have to split the tailshaft and use only the rear half when they get a T18 diff... Probably a strange length...

i think the K series splines are actually the same as the celica splines!! i'm pretty sure i stuck a K series tailshaft into the celica (and maybe T18) box i have,,..
T series and K series boxes are same length
if you have a K to T bellhousing already, it should fit up to the T18 box easily.. it's the AE86 box that will leak some oil from the front unless you fix it...

ok so it sounds like what i have to do is use the front have of the ke70 shaft and change the rear half with the t18 shaft
(can this be done)
this is only goingto be on the car for a few week coz putting a 3te(turbo)in to the car with a is200 6 speed and corona tail shaft with t18 diff modified to hold a bit more powerrr
thank jess

Concur; K40/K50 and T50 (20 spline) output shafts are the same. TE72 manual tailshaft will fit K40/K50 box, but not KE70 Borgwarner rear end. TE72 rear end will fit as bolt-in upgrade.
I actually still dunno WTF you are asking so I hope this random information helps.

September_Squall:
what i am asking is
i have a 1982 ke70 sedan with a k40 in it (4peed manual)
im upgrading the diff with a te72(t18) diff
could i use a te72 (t18) tailshaft in the ke70 with the the k40 in the car or would i have to change the tailshaft
by using the exsting ke70 tailshaft and change the rear half of the tail shft with the te72
(t18)
thanks jess

answer is maybe
as long as the two halves bolt up in the middle.... and the centre bearing position is still the same... measure bolt spacing and see .. it's gotta be close...
just a thought, you could also look at KE30 single piece shafts, as they are a little shorter (and KE20 and then KE10 shorter still), but you would have to match the bearing size with the T series flange at the diff.. but it gives you three more length options...
