MEGASQUIRT Group Buy happening... Sat, 19 July 2003 11:07 Go to next message
Hey All,
a few of us from the OZ_MS site are organising another group buy for Megasquirt DIY EFI computers. (yes they are FUEL ONLY)
if you haven't heard of them before, go to:
http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html

for more info, the Megamanual is good:
http://members.shaw.ca/megasquirt/MS%20FAQ.htm

cost is expected to be around AUD$180 for the Megasquirt and around $25 for the Megastim.

also check out the Aussie Megasquirters group at
http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/oz_ms/

be aware that it is a DIY build and implementation, but there is a large group of people who are keen to help.

for a taste of what can be done, check out these links for vids of a land speed car with turbocharged Hayabusa motor that ran almost 400km/hr against a 360km/hr record!! (running a Megasquirt of course Cool ) (4meg each!)
http://turborick.com/video/July_El_Mirage.WMV
http://turborick.com/video/June_El_Mirage.WMV
this motor has now been engine dynoed at 619hp @ 10,000rpm with 30PSI boost!!!!

this is a genuine group buy, in that we pool everyones cash together and bulk buy the parts, so we are not selling Megasquirt kits, just providing an easier/cheaper way to get one Very Happy

more details at
http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/oz_ms/message/333

Cya, Stewart

heh heh,
no the Megasquirt is normal components on a double sided, screen printed, solder masked board. piss easy to solder, everything is well spaced.

the "Ultramegasquirt" will be surface mount components, mostly so they can get faster processors for same cost as current one. i think it will be a 64 MHz motorola chip, 16 bit, 8 meg flash memory? something like that....

but no, the MS is easy to put together, and pretty easy to install. can use almost any sensors, only thing it's picky on is that TPS must be variable, not switch, otherwise you don't get any throttle position information. but any normal 0-5V TPS will do (and you calibrate it in software)

how hard would it be to get a mega squirt runing using 20v quads with ram tubes?
so there would be no map senser?

how does the 20V work out the load? i had thought it was MAP based?

anyways, the MS can be made to run with alpha-N or Map/RPM table. alpha-N is basically for race setups where there is very low MAP signal for most of the rpm range.

there are people successfully running ITB's with the onboard MAP sensor. to even out the pulsing, i've heard ppl take a vac signal from each TB, then join them, and pass into something the size of a fuel filter, then thru a MIG welding tip, both of which are to filter the vac signal and clean it up, so it is steady for the MS.

incidentally, the fuel filter and MIG tip work just like a capacitor/resistor for a frequency filter... hmmm

so basically, just need to tap vac off each TB (between butterfly and motor), smooth the signal (but that may not be needed) and run a single line to the MS.
this help?

ITB's on VW 8V head, has vac line off each TB.

also check out this thread"Where to position MAP tap on a system with individual throttle-bodies?"
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/megasquirt/mes sage/26478

from that thread:
Quote:

"Bill, I have logged the signal from each rotor as compared to both tee'd to one line. Individual rotors do not give a clean signal. Both tee'd together are better but not as good as both tee'd through a cheap plastic fuel filter. It's excellent enough that I didn't bother try the MIG/carb jet thing. This is with a 12A with fairly radical intake porting"

btw, that land speed car linked above (hayabusa turbo) has just been dynoed (on an engine dyno) at 619hp@10,000rpm with 30Psi boost, which is not bad for a 1360cc motor.
Very Happy

it's absolutely nuts!! i'm hanging out to see what speed it does at the next event!! 400km/hr last one, i can't even imagine the kick in the pants it has!! tho it's not like you can carry groceries in it Very Happy

as for quad TB's i'm quite keen to try them out on my car once i get normal single TB/plenum FI running. it can't be too hard to do... the next step is getting a turbo or SC working with ITB's. is there any benefit in using them with boost?

how hard could it be to machine up a set of TB's?

not likely to occur, at least with y involvement.

the main reason we did them was because it was not easy for aussie MS'rs to get their hands on one, but nw with so many suppliers of kits, it is not worth the time to save a little bit of money.

so basically, check out DIY autotune and Glens Garage and others and order from them....

unless you want to host a GB yourself? you'll need around 10-15 orders and a loooot of time Wink
