Sydney motorshow and Toyota Fri, 14 October 2005 00:44 Go to next message
Hi all,

Just had a read of today's Motor Show liftout in the Telegraph. It looks like Toyota will once again have a few camry's on their stand along with some concept cars and rubbish. Including a number that looks surprisingly like a wheel chair that would have been right at home in i-robot.

I suspect the Toyota stand will disapoint as it did last year.

The thing I don't get is sure, they make most of their money and profit from the bread and butter cars, the Corollas and Camrys et al. How does that stop them from producing something good as well on the side. Sure, they aren't going to make as much profit off them, but profit is profit and it'd help their brand image no end.

They had the supercharged camry there, the I-Robot, some wierdass concept thing and the F1 car...

Also, the new Land Cruiser (only cosmetic differences), the new Yaris and just the basic line up...

its probably the same f1 car ( just a roller , not a runner ) they bring to all the last 4 motorshows ..

they could have asked neal bates to bring along his rallycar .. At least that runs

The set itself I think was recycled from last year's display... nothing new there.. not even the latest RAV4 which was notably not there.

whats up with those dancers ?

its hip its rad ! its totally GAY!

ironic that the hottest actual driving car on the stand it seems, is the Evans rallycar - an St205 Gt4 - with a damn corolla shell ..

Toyota gets more and more pitiful by the day..

Wheres the Design Chief/public officers email - I wonder if a group Survey of enthusiasts would show that the Sportivo brand just isnt ticking the boxes for the guys and girls who like REAL toyota performance

Put 30 grand into a 15 year old Gt4 - or buy some boring arse camry with a badge and a set of alloy wheels ...

Hmms - REAL HARD DECISION TOYOTA Mad

Have to admit, the carmy looks good, and also the Yaris. Why did Toyota take the Euro name? Id rather Echo, or even better vitz. farking toyota. Now I see why 80%of toymodders have older cars.

Yaris was the original name from the place of origin (i.e. Europe). I like the Yaris. Quite a funky looking car.

I wasn't that impressed by Toyotas stand, the corolla gt4 was interesting, but in terms of production cars thers nothing great. The f1 car on display was just a shell aswell.

The lexus doesnt look bad - has it actually got a decent motor to match the excellent chassis now ?

Not that i could afford the most likely 50 grand price but yrah - its a good option for a later pick , when they are cheaper

being the IS250... and considering the way the others have been

IS200 = 2.0L inline six 1GFE
IS300 = 3.0L inline six 2JZGE

does that mean...

IS250 = 2.5L inline six 1JZ ?

and is it turrrrrbo?

It is not so much Toyota - more just Toyota Australia. I have said it before. Every year Toyota Australia tries to get all the models they have with are CARB motor in it.

The only reason fuel injected Toyotas made it out year is there was no CARB option from Japan............

This is sort of on topic and sort of not.

Recently (within the last 3 months) I took part in a research survey about motor sport, particularly V8 supercars. The first few questions were along the lines of do you follow the sport, Do you know the rules, do you know the drivers/teams.

From there it went to questions like what would make the sport more exciting to watch, What is you stance on other makers being introduced, If other makers were introduced to V8 supercars would their cars image become sportier.

Normally these survey groups tend to be a bit all over the place with answers but there was a clear indication that people wouldn't mind seeing other makers introduced. Further, Normally the group is told at the end who is doing the research but not during, but you tend to get the idea about 1/2 way through who it is. At first I thourght it was V8 supercars conducting but the questions soon swept to Toyota specific. and started things like if Toyota entered cars in v8 supercars would the car need to be RWD? would the based car need to be availabe as the falcon and commodore are in the same formate as the race car (ie V8 and RWD), would this make the product more appealing to you if you were to purchace a new car in the future?

So it may be that Toyota Australia are doing some real research into what ther provide to the market as they get more and more into motorsport.
