1986 Toyota celica st162 - just bought it! - VERY happy Mon, 17 October 2005 06:45 Go to next message
I purchased my first silly car (second car ever) only 3 weeks ago. I love the thing - it didnt cost me the world and has fanstastic performance...

Since I purchased the car I have already done some basic shizen to get it lookin and sounding nice.
1. Touch up and repaint bumper, front quarters and bonner.
2. Paint wheels black (cos they were the stock alloys and were scratched to the Shizzle)
3. Some interior bits and pieces
4. Shtereo mada

I have some photo's below;

As you can see the panel workers did a great job matching paint and making it look shmikko. I did all the interior/stereo/wheels myself. It all has come up nicely so far.

I just cut some mdf to size and covered it in wool batting then white vinyl for the parcel shelf. I used the same vinyl for all panels...

Plan to paint some more bits white to give it a theme kinda feel but I dont want to go too ricy.

The shtereo is a oldskool but kickass headunit plugged into two amps. The first came with the car and powers splits. The second I put in and its split between two 6 inch drivers and a tidy 12" pioneer sub.

VERY happy with the car so far... just dreaming up what I should do next... any suggestions? ---- Im thinking of painting the lower rear bar white - ive seen it on others and it looks great?!

Looks hot man! Black rims on white cars = porn. The interior trim looks really neat too - did you do it yourself? Get the rest of the lower body bits colour matched too, that'd really set it off!

Welcome to the ST162 brigade! Razz

Cheers dude - yeah I saw a st162 with black rims once (just painted stock rims) and fell in love - it looked great.

I just sanded them back, primed them, then painted - easy really just TIME CONSUMING! like any painting...

The interior is another story - it was EXTREMELY time consuming. The panels are easy enough to get off BUT THEN... you gotta strip off existing material, then glue down, bit by tiny f'n bit, the vinyl... then the hardest bit - getting the panels back on and looking good. I ended up stripping out the whole rear interior panel to get them back on nicely - the doors werent so bad cos they're quite easy to strip off the car - and easy to put back on...

Over all I was really happy with how it came up... To be honest it took 2-3 goes for each panel to get it taught and tight... but yeah it was worth it...

I will paint the bottom bits of the exterior white next - it looks great on other cars and is reasonably inexpensive... thanks for the comments - keep hitten em up!

Tommo

That's right - I have the 3SGE... with extractors it performs very well. I wasnt really shopping for 'performance' as such when I bought the car but I still got a very economical performer.

My previous car was a civic, and compared to that - IT FLYS!!

Shouldn't be too much to paint a small strip. Either that, or you could go Autobarn or something, get them to make up a spraycan of your cars colour (assuming its stock or you've got the colour code for it), and spray to your liking Very Happy You then got some paint left over for minor chips and dings etc...

I need an honest opinion... WHAT do people think of this?

http://img451.imageshack.us/img451/3618/5845868full3tq.jpg

Is it too ricy?
for one, I think that it is illegal to paint over the reflector part of the tail lights???
what do people think?

Thanks for letting me know 'out of your own opinion' - but that was why I posted the image in the first place. I dont HAVE painted tail lights, my lights are stock. So there is no offence buddy - cos there not mine!
