ST162 / ST165 / ST185 Brake Upgrade v Wheel Size

Hi all.
I've searched and read about brake up grades and conversions for the ST162 and ST165. What I would like to know if it is possible to fit the 185 size rotors (20mm bigger both front and rear) and still be able to squeeze the original rims over the top - the 14 x 6 jobbies?
Thanks,
Mitch.

According to my documents, ST185 is 278mm and ST165 is 258mm.
In general, 260mm is the largest you'll get under 14" rims, and 280mm is the largest under 15" rims.
You may squeeze an extra 10mm in there with low profile calipers, but 20mm will be pushing it.

Thank you for the comprehensive and well researched answer, much appreciated. You can have a boiled lolly and go to the top of the class.
Then, as an aside, do you know offhand of any 14 inch rims that might fit? Could a 3 piece Simmons be jigged up to get over it?
Thanks.

If you mean the 3piece simmons that have 14" centre and 15" outers then maybe...
But no.

14's fit.
I have st185 twinspot jdm calipers and rotors under my standard st162 (series 1)14" wheels. only JUST do they fit though! And no rubbing issues what so ever.

the twin spot calipers on early st185's are the same as the st165 items. and yes they will happiley fit under 14" wheels... well just.
ont the other hand i also have a set of st185 278mm single piston items and i think you'd be about stuffed to fit them in 14" wheels.

Thanks guys, I had half a vague idea that there was some caliper dependency involved in this somewhere, and you have cleared this up for me now.
Cheers,
Mitch.

Remember that the JDM (twin piston) and Aus spec (big single piston) are different diameters.
