Hi Everyone,
Brilliant news!! Found an inexpensive real-time logger to monitor any analog input signals on your car between -10V and +10V!! eg: O2 signal, AFM/MAF/MAP, TPS, fuel injectors, RPM, etc.
Examples of logged data (wideband O2 signal vs RPM) while accelerating is here:
http://cyberdave.org/carwb.html
http://cyberdave.org/CarTest.html
--------------------
Cost/feature Details
--------------------
1/ DI-194RS $24.95US
* 4 single-ended analog input channels ±10VFS.
* 10-bit measurement resolution
* RS-232 PC interface connection
* 240Hz maximum sample throughput
* details at http://www.dataq.com/products/startkit/di194rs.htm
2/ DI-148U $50US
* 8 single-ended analog input channels, ±10Volt full scale range.
* 10-bit measurement resolution
* USB PC interface
* Up to 14,400 Hz sample throughput rate,
* Six digital TTL I/O lines for general purpose I/O.
* Details at http://www.dataq.com/products/startkit/di148.htm
Note: Appears to require expensive WinDAQ software to extract full capabilities. Consider alternative shareware/free software below:

I like the sounds of the USB model myself. Group buy anyone?
Note: not affiliated with DataQ in anyway. Just sharing the good news.

doesn't look too bad,
240Hz is not really fast enoguh for engine stuff, but should be fine for temps etc...
the 10bit res is a bit lacking tho.. 20mV may not be enough for thermocouple accuracy.. but still, looks nice
a little more expensive, but free software, and very good (i used the ADC-16 at uni)
picotech
http://www.picotech.com/data-logger.html
also good is "Street dyno" but i am yet to try it..
i reckon give it a go better than no datalogger at all!

Another update. The locally available Picotech ADC-12 looks the goods . Available at: http://www.emona.com.au/catalogue/Section_4/index. html
Though they want > $220AUS for it!! Yikes. Asked for the price for a Toymods forums group-buy, so waiting for an answer.
I think if it's over $150, I'm just gonna get the DataQ from the US is ($50US). Will see if it's cheaper on Ebay.

IIRC the freight on those from the US is a killer, I was thinking about getting one a while ago.

NOTE: Found the sampling rate is divided by the number of inputs used. So 14.4K/4 if using 4 inputs!!
More info.. there's another DataQ unit I missed in the mix. Nice feature is 12-bit resolution (4096 levels)
3/ DI-158U $99US
* 12-bit measurement resolution (ie: 2^12=4096 levels)
* Four ±10V or optional ±64V fixed differential inputs.
* Four digital bits for general purpose I/O.
* Two 0V to 1.25V digital to analog output ports.
* USB PC interface
* 14,400 samples/second
* Six digital TTL I/O lines for general purpose I/O.
* Includes WinDaq/Lite Recording Software, WinDaq W
* Winner of Evaluation Engineering's 2004 Reader's Choice Award for Best Data Acquisition Product.
* Details at http://www.dataq.com/products/startkit/di158.htm
----------------------------------
Cost delivered to Australia?
---------------------------------
DataQ charge $30US to deliver to Sydney only via courier company DHL!! So the total cost then is:
1/ DI-194RS $24.95US + postage = $54.95US = $73 AUD
2/ DI-148U $50US + postage = $80US = $107 AUD
3/ DI-158U $99US + postage = $129US = $172 AUD
Postage costs scale from $30US per unit to $72 for 10 units! Though customs hit ya with fees as soon as you go > $250AUD using a courier!! Unless it's standard post in which the doco says is $1000AUD, though people say it's $500AUD.
---------------------
Where to from here?
--------------------
* Checking with the local AUS distributor http://www.turnkey-solutions.com.au to see if they can do a special price for toymods forum members. A dude there is doing the calcs now and I'll post up the info as soon as I receive it.
Cheers,
sjj

fark thats cheap, we paid about $600 a few years ago for uni
fwiw, you can hook up LM35DZ (iirc) precision temp sensors to it to measure deg C.. 10mV/C
i think some of the LM35's go up to 150?? but are around $10 each..

Okay folks.. we can get the DataQ DI-158U and DI-148U at pretty good prices locally via http://www.turnkey-solutions.com.au
I'm interested in the DI-148U myself. $80 is pretty cheap for 8-analog 10-bit ports, 14.4k, USB, etc. Think that's probably good enough for my engine diagnostics.

Not classed as courier as far as I know. Packages seem to go straight through customs just like USPS stuff does, unlike those farken rip-off merchant couriers - like UPS,Fedex,DHL etc etc. EMS seems to be at least half the price of the couriers and take no longer to get here, if not quikcer. Same goes for USPS.
