AE82 20V Vs AE92 GZE
|

Does anybody know the difference in weight between
the AE92's and AE82's ?
How would an AE82 20V go against an AE92 GZE, both with
filter, exhaust.
Would the GZE eat the 20 valve comfortably ?

I think that the GZE has a higher reliable power rating at 165hp...meaning, everyone that has put a GZE in their Corolla has gotten close to this power figure at the wheels. Plus with just a pulley you can up the boost to 14psi and acheive likely 180hp.
The 20V on the other hand, has consistantly put out lower power figures at around 155hp... Also the Torque that comes on early in the power curve from the GZE would more than make up for and HP difference between the two.
I'd say go with the GZE: Easier, faster, cooler, just plain sweet!

as mentioned about 100 times on these forums
traffic light GP = GZE will munch
100km/h roll on = 20V will have the legs

Cheers 2-skinny,
Im about to buy my next car and
they have been my options so far.
Being supercharged how reliable is the gze ? and how many k's can they do before they sh*t themselves ?
Sorry Rob_RA40 i wanted to know if the weight of both the cars would make much difference to the result. ie. AE82 being the lighter car.
but obviously not much.

Apparently the GZE's are quite reliable. With my conversion i only had it on the road for 2 weeks, first of all i snapped an axle, then the blower shit itself, so i replaced that and installed a NEVO 175mm pulley. Then the ecu shit itself. Now getting a Stinger EMS put in(hopefully by the weekend). Was fun to drive for the short time it was running though.

Has anybody seen these two cars race ????
In my Serious Performance 2 video
2 red AE82's have a drag, and the GZE won by half a second over the silvertop.
This was in the wet and i think they did 16's.
Matt Webb's 20 valve conversion on the rollaboyz site also
mentions he noticed minimal difference in power between an AE82 20 valve and a AE92 GZE.

Stick a pulley on a gze and you'll notice a difference.
gze slower than a 20v from 100kmh, sounds like an urban myth!!!

Ive had the GZE for 3 years now. It has NEVER missed a beat!! The gearbox started crunching on me after the 1st year but that was easily fixed with the more desirable LSD box. The CV boot broke once as well. Also it ran out of fuel once on my way home but that my fault for stretching the extra 10L of fuel to the limits. Other than that, the gze is a realiable gem..
A tad on the boring side though. Fast but boring. I'd choose the much slower, but rev happy 20V over this anyday purely for its fun factor..
my 2 cents

exactly!
compare a rev-happy 20v to a twin turbo v8 monster (like jamie's).
I'll take a car with a happy torque & power curve any day over sdomething you ahve to rev the tits off to get something out of!

Nothing beats a flat torque curve, some guys love heaps of revs because it "feels" fast.
