A friend who owns a 3sge celica, noticed that yamaha was cast into the head. He checked out other 3sge's and they didnt have it. Can anyone explain, is this a rare head?? is there an increase in h/p.. thanx heaps..
I know that yamaha has done alot of work with toyota like 18rgu's and 1jzs but ive never heard of it with 3sges....

afaik (and this could be partly bullshit) Early Gen 1 3S-GE heads were stamped with Yamaha on them, there is no performance difference between a Yamaha stamped or non-stamped head. Design of the cast was originally by Yamaha and Toyota stopped putting the Yamaha stamp on it when they started doing the manufacturing/casting in house.
I think this is a common theme with all 3S-GE heads. As my ST165 has Yamaha stamped on it, as do some SW20's most ST185s etc etc.

I think your right CrUZsida, FE heads are Toyota and GE are Yamaha. The only exception is 2JZ-GTE, its a Toyota designed head. Hence the popularity of building 1.5JZ's in Japan as the Yamaha 1JZ-GTE Head flows better up high.

This is a popular myth, as usual started by the yanks. Both the 1JZ-GTE and 2JZ-GTE heads are designed by Yamaha, as are all performance-oriented Toyota cylinder heads. There is no significant difference in flow rates between them.

Aha, another myth de-bunked. So why the hell do they do it?

Coz the price of a new 2JZ block is the same as a 1JZ block from Toyota.
And it doesn't require any electrical changes since you are retaining the 1JZ head.
Hence, a 'free' 500cc

If you already have a built 1JZ with aftermarket cams, manifolds, turbos etc and you want to upgrade to 3.0L, it's cheaper and easier to build a 1.5JZ than swap in a 2JZ. This is because the manifolds and related hardware aren't compatible between the 1JZ and 2JZ.
