There are a lot of options for upgrading your Corona.

For a simple upgrade there's the 12R 1600 from the RT81 Corona. It's a straight bolt in. A Corona 1600S 4R engine which has twin carbs and a bit more pep will also bolt straight in, but is hard to find. An R series four or five speed manual will bolt up to these engines.

Moving up the difficulty scale, I'm tol an 18RG 2.0 twin cam or any other R series just about bolts in. Or you can go for a 4AGE or even a 4AGZE if you are adventurous.

Cheers,

Rebuild kits are cheap for the 2R,just rebuild it if it has been good to you,or just find a good 12R.The 12R looks identical,it can be found in Hiluxs and Hiaces.

12R's do still turn up in wreckers, you just might have to look for a while.

4R are just about extinct. I last saw one in rolled RT40 1600S four door in a wreckers at Bordertown two years ago. I doubt it is still there. Sad
