3S-GTE with 2S sump oil leaks Sun, 06 November 2005 21:43 Go to next message
Hey all, hows it going? Quick question for all of you out there who has done the rwd 3sgte conversion using a 2s sump.

The 2 holes at the back of the 2s sump that have to be filled, well I filled those up with weld and grinded flat.

But there doesn't seem to be enough clamping pressure at the back of the sump anymore, and has a persistant oil leak from around that area.

Has anyone come up with any fixes for this?

Maybe a 2S rear main housing, so those holes can be used? Or more gasket goo?

Or is there enough meat to tap into the 3S rear main seal housing and put an extra bolt in there?

Cheers
Joel

Is it definetly leaking from the sump? Mine appeared to be leaking from the sump but was actually the rear main seal.

I had the same problem Joel. I ended up extending the flat plate at the back so that I could bolt it on.

So you extended it, and then tapped some holes in the alloy main seal thing?

The 3s one already has holes? My gen2 doesn't Sad
Even the factory 3sgte sump didn't have any bolt holes at the back there. But there was a bit more meat on the back of the sump I assume to help sealing it up.

Here are a few pics.. Note the 3S sump doesn't have any bolt holes at the back of it.

Interesting Confused See the Gen 3 had an alloy sump.
Maybe you could just drill and tap some holes in the alloy seal holder. Or use more goop Rolling Eyes

joel make sure the sump is flat before you put the toyota packing material on it make sure you put heaps ,big bead at the back and when it tightens up you shoud not have a problem PS dont use silastic aint no good and make sure the sump surface is clean and has no oil on both contact surface es as the packing material will not go off and set

I'v done a few of these now and never had any trouble with leaks , If you clean both surfaces with thinners and apply a bead of Locktite Black Max it will never leak .
