Decisions decisions

Well, as some of you have probably seen from THIS, my car is being a right royal hoe-bag.
It was taken to a place that specialises in EFI problems, and were well recommended. They checked everything they could without a dyno, could only diagnose the idle problem as being an issue with the ISCV. One ISCV replaced, about *this* much improvement in the idle, no changes to top end.
It was always on the cards for my car to receive a Microtech LT10S, just not now. I'd been picking up bits here and there to save money, and I've come to the realisation when the last stuff arrived, I've got nearly all the bits I wanted to go with it. The 7MGTE injectors, coilpacks, igniter, 1GGZE CAS, 4AGE 20v ISCV...
I've gone over this car with a fine-tooth comb, and I can't say I've ever been this frustrated. I don't want to be wasting money on something that ultimately will be replaced, but on the other hand, I don't want to be driving around in a crippled car for ages if it takes me a long time to get the money together (wrong time of year )
What do you think I should do?

If you are planning on going that way in the future why spend the money on a band aid fix?
Spend it once and spend it right.

If anyone votes, can they please just give a quick reason for their choice, even if it's just a one-liner.
Cheers Lambolica, that's sorta my thinking. I'm just constantly battling the "how am I going to pay for it?" costs running through my head.

I'm sorta in the same boat and I know how you feel... My issue revolves around turbos however. and the descision to go single turbo or put up with smokey baby twins.

I voted 2. just because as Lambolica mentioned, why pour money into the old ECU if you have no intention of keeping it anyway.
But!
If you can get onto a cluey tuner with a dyno who is prepared to listen to what you have checked/eliminated as potential problems and is willing to have a think and try to diagnose the problem over a short period of time then that may also be worth while. But if you just have to drop the car off and some dude is going to go over all the things you have already checked and is just trying to find a needle in a hay stack then I wouldn't think it's worth it.

Goes to the street corner to pimp out body to pay for it. After smacking down Ed and stealing his oil filter adapter.

Bang for buck the LT10S has a lot going for it as I am sure JCMF is aware. Of the examples I have seen fitted to cars/bikes I have been quite impressed.

Hi,
I didn't vote 'cos there was no "toss out EFI crap and put in a decent set of carbs" option.
They'll fix your problem.

you tried a second ECU right? I would probably save for the aftermarket, if you were gonna get one anyway, maybe a JCMF pie drive? lol. anyway I am not surer cluey but is an aftermarket definitely gonna solve the problem? like it doesn't have to do with not enough fuel being delivered or something.
My old (sorry guys) commodore used to die in the ass up in the top end under certain conditions due to not enough fuel being delivered. Just a thought, i am sure you have gone over everything i would just hate to see an aftermarket go on and still not solve the problem.

Aftermarket should solve the problem. I can rule out any problems with the loom, I can rule out any problems with the ECU, and I can stuff around with checking sensors via the display, enabling me to watch their output through their full sweeps.
It's fuelled properly before, and since then it's had a Walbro fitted, so i'd hope it's not a fuel supply problem

well depends how much you want to mod in the future..
they have this nifty new one locally made called an adaptronic
seems pretty darn good and hes based in sydney too
up there with the haltechs for a fraction of the price.

I plan to mod it plenty, but I won't be changing any of the sensors or ignition systems it'll be interfacing with.
The question I pose is, what does a Haltech offer that the Microtech can't do, and I'm talking about the E6X, not the E11 obviously.

I'm with the others on "why spend money on something you're going to replace anyway", also the more you spend now the further off the microtech (or other) is.
Of course, that's easy for us to say cause we don't have to live with it in the meantime, how far off is it realistically? And how much can you cut off that with ruthless budgeting scrimping and eating 2 min noodles and drinking (god forbid) light beer?
In the long run you'll always regret pushing the aftermarket ecu back even a little bit, you just have to try and focus a little more long term and grin and bear it.

id personally go the e8 haltech
the e6x has the features but lacks resolution and certain things id be wanting for MY car
yours being a COMPLETELY different beast makes your prerequisites different obviously
but yeah the e8 only coz of the 4 ign drivers and 32x32 res on fuel and ign. more inputs and aux outputs too.
im not 100% on the microtech features but then again the haltech e8 is twice the price of your LT10S
