Best car magazine?

Just wondering what the rest of you find to be the best car magazines around.
I went down to the local newsagents today to get a "High performance imports" but there wasnt any there so I grabbed an "Import racer" instead. Its the first time Ive ever seen this mag and to be I honest it was pretty poor, at a few dollars more than my usual "HPI" I wont be getting it again.
Your thoughts?

I dont buy
I stand and read till i'm asked to leave
Then i say "i'm about to buy this magazine"
Then i read some more
After a while they realise i'm not going to spend money so i get asked to leave in a firm voice(which must be hard for somone half my height)
Then i go buy a yellow gatorade and leave...its like a ritual really

I've found if you after some good tech content then Zoom can be quite good. Especially as you normally score two issues for the price of one.
HPI is alright but everything is pretty much the same in it these days. Some asian workshop throws $50,000 dollars at a supra/gtr/other import and they end up with a similar car with a different body kit.
There model specific editions are good when they do one on your car though.

BEST magazine I've EVER READ is the High Performance imports Surpra/Soarer special.
Has about 6 supras and 4 soarers in it, plus goes through all the drag supras. Theres a kinda "chosing a toyota turbo" which goes through each of the toyota turbos.
I can't find it here at the moment (room is a bomb site) but its got a yellow cover.

I used to read Race Car Engineer but that sucks now, too many ads and not enought content.
I have been buying a pommy mag lately called Car and Car Conversions. It is a bit costly but really interesting, and isn't full of ricers. They are just interested in performance mods and mainly 4 bangers. They occasionally feature the odd bike engined car too. Worth a read if you can find it.
I'm not interested in plastic and sterio's, so short of Zoom and dare I say it Street Machine, there are not too many local publications worth reading.
My 2 cents worth anyway.

Well I have only ever subscribed to one magazine and that's Zoom so I guess that's a bit of an indication of my tastes. That being said probably my favourite car magazine is Grass Roots Motorsports, however it's a US mag and I don't see it in any newso's real often. If you want an idea of what the guys at GRM are into they have a web site at http://www.grassrootsmotorsports.com/.

I second that Yogi.
Extreme is my pick, it has a nice blend of everything (even a small pic of Yogi's car ).
It's on the shelves now and it's the very first edition, I will certainly be buying the 2nd one.
I used to buy street Heat and Performance build-ups when they were in print, they had heaps of tech articles and how to do's.
I only buy Zoom when it's in a two pack.
But I always buy any mag if it's got a choice celica in it.
Hey yogi, hoy about that sweet green custom bike, nice!!!!!
And that VC Commodore is pretty damm awsome.
Up the EXTREME!!

big bad benny....if you look in the article on the summernats in extreme, you will see a green HQ. I spent 99.9% of my cruising time at the nats in the front seat of that thing! ( you can see me in the pic!)
worked 454 with no exhaust except for two 4in headers makes for some fun cruising!
Plus i love the mag cause a very good friend of mine owns it!

I like Motor and Wheels, basically because it writes about all different types of cars every month, like Holden & Ford. Your bound to read an article about a particular model of Commodore and Falcon in every issue! And its a little more interesting than:
"This is Mr Tommie's 88 VL Turbo, and he's done this to it, and that, and this, and that, and now it puts out this many hp at the rear treads. Mr Tommie loves tearing up the tarmac in his modified 88 VL Turbo. Mr Tommie put in a air filter, and this air filter gives him an extra Hyundai Excel beating 2 hp at the rear wheels."
Articles like the above that you are likely to see in say...Hot 4s or other rice trash mags like that bore the shit out of me.

Hey Benny, Performance Build-Ups is still in print it's just that it only comes out quarterly. I hang out for each copy all year.
If anyone's interested in tech articles, Performance Build-Ups has got to be the best magizine for it. It's covered the guy that built the replica Lambos with the 1UZs, & a custom car he & another guy's designing & building, the '55 Chev powered by a 27 litre supercharged V12 Rolls Royce Merlin engine, built by Castlemaign Rod Shop, plus technical articles that go for pages & pages. No skimping of info 'cos they gotta squeeze in a quota of shitbox cars.
I highly recommend it.

I think Zoom, followed by Fast Fours.
Hot 4s used to be ok but has gone down hill badly over the last year or 2.

My fav mag is EVO, it's all about cars which are interesting of fun to drive, abou the experience not necessarily going the fastest (tho that is fun too haha).
Of the modified mags my fav is "Sport Compact Car" (is from the US) they have some very technical articles which I like about steering, suspension, exhaust and their project cars are properly engineed to be PROPERLY built up, not 'turn up the boost and hope for the best' Eg: they had a Project MR-2 3S-GTE and they showed the stages it took to build it up...all the way to a 'reliable' 550+ REAR WHEEL Hp, but was still a docile daily-driver....gotta love cars like that transmission was a lil borderline at that Hp and the front wheels were lifting off the ground on launches too The mag has HEAPS of ads in it tho, so dun buy it if u find those annoying, and the writing standards have dropped recently, too may 'dumb' articles, not enuf tech...
Like Zoom, never bought HPi, pretty $$ just flick thru it, like Motor, Wheels a bit boring, buy HOT4s just to laugh at some of the rice but some of the tech and cars are good, and like to see what toys I -could- buy for my car. Like Classic & Sportscar, Motorsport, Cars and COnversions, Autosport, heaps, spend waay too much haha. HATE MAX POWER gosh it's crap...

ZOOM! is good, it would be nice to have some big power cars that didn't run on methanol/nitrous but it is still good. and i don't know how they decided that yellow 1uzfe celica had 600 kw anywhere, but it is still damn good.
i didn't mind hot4s at first, (ie didn't crap on so much) but then they started writing things like "the chilled air is then forced through the silicon hose and excess pressure blah blah blah"
any magazine that lists a trust radiator cap or hks oil filler cap as an engine mod has lost my vote.
there was some oldschool magazine i flicked through at an exhaust
shop once that had articles like "what happens when you pour water down the carby of a smallblock chev at 5000 rpm" but i didn't read much of it.

speed is ok, i wrote an email to curt dupreiz (nice name) correcting him about "nissan's aging cast iron sr20 block" and he got straight back to me with an apology. it could do with more cars and less *ahem* club clothes and keyrings and such sh*t. still, nice mag allthesame.
