AE86 front clip on KE70? Sat, 12 November 2005 05:38 Go to next message
Was just a crazy thought I had yesterday. I'm in a slow process of modding an AE82 bumper to fit a KE70 when I noticed that the AE82 bumper sits alot lower than it does on the AE82, therefore indicating that the increased headlight size on the KE70 is downwards, not upwards. Further indicating that AE86 lights should fit.

Anyway there would still be a hell of alot of measurements to be carried out, and probably a bit of modification, but my idea was to use a complete ADM AE86 front clip (ie. Bonnet, grille, lights, bumper, both fenders), and fit it onto the KE70, therefore eliminating both the ugly bumper and ugly lights in one go, and opening doors to sourcing a body kit and carbon-fiber bonnet.

Well.. it was just a thought...

I'll do a chop now, to see what it would look like. Will be up in about 20-30 mins.

Kev.

"That's terrible, That's terrible man, Yo' mother brought you up wrong that's what it is, Yo' mother got a wooden leg with a kickstand motherfucker" - Eddie Murphy.

No but seriously, it would be a massive looks upgrade to the ol' KE70. The main reason people pick AE86's over KE70's are the looks, drift capabilities are almost equal between them...

After a bit of a think about it, I would actually need to chop and weld the quarter panel, due to the need for a little bit of metal near the side mirrors (You can see it on my chop up the top). But I think I may have found the solution to that little problem. AE82 Smile

haha I've been entertaining the idea of an aw11 or trueno front end on my ae82.
That looks pretty decent, only why not trueno? ;P

I think the ke70 front end suits the car. It's no porsche but at least the front, middle and rear were designed to work with each other. The ae86 isn't that amazingly good either, but it certainly works in context with the rest of the car (remember all these cars look stupid from factory - the only reason that photochop with the magic pole going through it looks any good is because the rest of the car has been toughened up). Consider yourself lucky you don't have to try and buy ae86 parts to repair damage... get some +0 offset wheels and leave your bloody front end alone!

imo

hey, thats the front of my car on yours in that photochop.
looking at the pic of that red one it uses the rear section of the 70 front guards and the front section of 86.
That would be how u would do it to make the crease in the guard look any good.
Have a crack at it Kev, I know your different Razz

JDM Quad headlights, they are fkn horn... But I'd prefer AE86 front if I can get it cookin... And yeah an older style KE70 front will fit with a few little modifications to your radiator support panel i believe..

w0rd! Finally someone that sees things from my perspective...

Will also be doing a rear panel mod to fit an AE86 rear bumper for anyone that's wondering, so it won't be "front good, rear still ugly".

Two words. Takumi... Tax... And just to be clear, I think my car is hawt, quite frankly I don't mind the massive headlights and bumpers that stick out 5 meters. Any person can grow to love the look of their car. Think about KE10 owners for example Razz (Sorry guys ahhah).

Personally I would have gone for an AE86, but pricing was difficult, and I hate hatchbacks and liftbacks, always have and always will. Ofcoarse even though the AE86 is a hatchback, I still love it to death, but with an AE86 front end and AE86 rear bumper on my KE70, I can have the best of both worlds. AE86, and my beloved Sedan...

Quite frankly if I can find a JDM KE70 Front end and rear bumper, I'll most likely go for that... Less fkn around and its still fkn h0rn...

Depends on what front it has already, small square headlights it can be made to fit but the large square lights and sloped front lights both have different gaurds.
