Only thing I know is that front sumps are found in 1G-GEs, 1G-GZEs, and 1st Gen 1G-GTEs.

i have some more questions that dont warrant a new thread, so here goes;

1. which 1ggte cars come with the rear type sumps??
2. which cars come with the gen 3 1ggte??
3. what is the common 1ggte that you purchase at importers???
4.which cars have the mid type engine mounts??

if somebody can do a profile, that would be awesome.
example;

-model (years)
-sump type
-mid or rear position engine mounts
-generation 1ggte used

thanx

brett

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but the newbie bashing tradition of some on the "Forums Junkies" has convinced me not to start my own.

Now the antagonism is out of the way Very Happy ; can someone please tell me what years each generation of the 1GGTE was produced? I have tried searching and haven't been able to find out the info myself. Thanks

As far as I can tell, Gen3 started mid-88, Gen2 went up till this. When it crossed over from Gen1 to Gen2 is a little less clear, all I know is that they're almost the same bar the water/air intercooler.

Thanks. I should have asked this before, but can you tell me if there were any power differences between the three generations? Is any one of these stronger than the others?

The Gen3 has 210PS, and as far as I can tell, both the Gen1 and Gen2 have around 185PS. The Gen3 has bigger injectors, bigger turbos (only slightly), a better ECU (and tuning) and we're speculating based off power made (gold28's Gen2 with Gen3 ancillaries) that it has more aggressive cams.

1G-GTE 1985 to 1987 185 @ 6200 173 @ 3800 AFM, distributor, water/air IC

This is the grey area. My ECU, injectors and turbos all match a Gen1, although it has an air/air intercooler, and I know of a few like this.

As does mine. the Gen1 - 2 stuff is very up in the air. I also got mine from a 1988 (i think) GZ20 soarer and it had rear mounts and sump, i had to swap everything off my existing 1G-GE much like HyDrA did, if anyone is still interested

Theres a boxy Soarer at work that has a front sump. Is the 1GGTEU the 3rd gen?

Also, will the 22RE gearbox bolt up to the 1G?

The 1GGTEU can be any of them, although I've seen more Gen1/2's with the U than Gen3's. The easiest way to tell them apart is the injectors and ECU plugs.

The 22RE box you describe will probably be a W55/57/58 (which ever one). Yes, it will bolt to a 1G with the correct bellhousing.
