MA61 Lsd Diff rebuild prices? Wed, 16 November 2005 08:33 Go to next message
Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had a MA61 LSD diff rebuilt and knows of somewhere that can do better than these prices I have been quoted.
Anyone know of places in brissy or gold coast that could do cheaper?

The bearings and seals have been quoted to me at about $230 for four of each.

My clutches are worn out and need replacing too, I have been told they are around $300(have to confirm that) for a set consisting of 8. Am told that you can only get genuine toyota ones.
Labour to rebuild the diff should be less than $200 I hope.

So that is around $700

I know you can get torsens for around that price, but I have already bought this diff and am getting it rebuilt.

Out of interest can you buy diff kits that will fit into the F series housing for a better price or same price that that?

Thanks

Usual price will be $500 - $600 for a drivein, driveout rebuild to factory specs (as long as you don't need new ring/pinion gears.

It may cost more to shim the LSD up so its tighter than factory.

Make some calls, get some quotes.

it should have a sticker on the back rhs of the diff saying "LSD OIL" or some such.

of corse, that's no guarantee he hasn't swapped in a single spinner RA65 centre if the ma61 lsd centre died

In the search field or google, please type "LSD identification" or some such. It's all there.

Unfortunately, this is not home auto mech 101..... Rolling Eyes

Visual inspection is easy if the centre is out of the housing. If the spider gears are clearly visible, it's an open diff. If it's all enclosed in a metal casing, it's an LSD.

Thanks, But I would love to know futher details on inspecting it being the right Ma61 LSD, Just incase I buy & bring it home to find its not a Ma61 LSD.

P.s Is their a way of testing how effective it is? i.e Make a quick check its not Battered & bruised inside due for a recondition.

Sorry but want to be wise to it when I go pick up on saturday/sunday!

If anyone is willing to import a F series diff from an Ra28 or Ma61 LSD from the UK, just let me know I will source out for you, we can trade parts for parts.(bit of a long shot but the offer stands)

Thanks in advance to your replies

There are few threads detailing the TrueTrac diff conversion for an MA61 diff. IIRC, they had pics of the original LSD. Probably do a search for those threads both here and on celicasupra.com forums.

Failing that, I suggest you find a pic looking through the TSRM.
