1G too heavy?

I'm thinking about putting a 1G into my Corona but I've read on these forums that (1G in a Corona) the extra weight has upset the cars handlling.
Anyone know if this is true? The car will be used for drift so this is important.
Thanks.

The 1G probably weighs about the same, if not a tad less than your R series engine. That said, it IS longer, therefore some of that weight is going to be further forward. It will have a detrimental effect on balance and handling, but nothing extreme that couldn't be dialed out with better suspension.

I should think that having the extra power of the 1g over the lump R series motor would be more of a benefit to your drifting and outweigh and handling problems expirienced with the engine change

my celica struggles for rear end traction and doesn't understeer at all.
i'd assume thats what a drifter would want ?

How can you upset a Corona's handling? It is not very good to begin with!
seriously: if that fella with the ga61 can do it, you can do it too

Is a 1G all alloy? I know it weighs more ( 2 more cylinders and 2 turbos) but if it isn't too much, no dramas.
At the momment the car is lowered 2" at the front and 1.5" at rear but I still have to fit stiffer shockers.
Cheers for the help, much appreciated.

1G is cast iron block, alloy head.
But its a tiny motor.

D-master
Not sure that you read the earlier answer to your question. The 1g is lighter than your existing R series motor.
Do a search on this forum and you will find that this issue has had lots of coverage in the past. It will also provide the relative weights.
