Hey
I was wondering if some one could tell me what RMP my starter motor should be turning my engine over at. It's a 4age.

Ok then any idea why it's cranking at around 200-300 rpm.
I've got a big optima gel cell in the back. Around 1000 it said on it, I think.
Would my problem be my battery or my starter motor.

Engine has just gone in to the car. Battery cable is the highest gauge my local auto shop had. Should I give up and take it to a pro. I've being quoted 60 bucks an hour is that reasonable rate for an auto electrician?

Just listen to it... does it sound like it's got a bad hangover, or does it sound just fine?

spark plugs in or out?

Mine cranked at 250-300 with plugs, almost 500 without.

What are you trying to achieve? Does the motor not start or something?

4A-C and 4AGE up to the 20V variants all had 200RPM starter motors, after that the 20V's all had reduction drive starters which cranked at 250RPM

as an after thought re the conversation the other night... since you have moved the battery have you made sure the earth points at the battery are grounding well and have you got a good earth line back to the engine block.
