Nice work Craig! Peeked at the EXIF data eh?
D70s which I bought just for the trip. My previous SLR died in the ass and I wasn't going to Africa without an SLR!
I used two lenses:
Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6 D-type
Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6 G-type

Perhaps this flamefest is better off in its own thread...
Personally, I prefer the construction and the auto-exposure smarts of the Nikons.
Canons are good too, they've got good (dare I say, better) lenses and they're better value for money.
But having Nikon lenses already made my decision easy...
Maybe one day Paul and I will sit down and take the same photo?
Or you could just check out dpreview.

I think that really makes the decision for anyone serious about photography as they'll already have an SLR and just be changing over.

Yup. That's the first thing I ask when someone comes to me with an "I'm thinking of upgrading, should I go Nikon or Canon?" question.
Plus, you get used to either the Nikon or the Canon interface so it's a smoother transition as well if you stick to the same brand.
Having said that, I've done the switch a couple of times due to the package (body and lens) being great.

Sorry i forgot to put on the flame suit on * puts flame suit on * .
Am i right in saying the eos350d has more megapixels?
Dont worry Nark im shocked at the qualtity of that cameras photos especially the elephant and elephant trail sign.
|
8.0 megapixels woot go canon, only prob with the 350D is you can't use the L-series (grey/white canon lenses with it) has a plastic mount for the lens and the wieght of these fuckers literally rips it out. So if you want to progress thru and get good canon lenses you must atleast get a 20D which has a metal mount for the lenses.

Yup.
Canon EOS 350D is 8MP.
Nikon D70s is 6MP.
I'll try to keep this balanced, but I did buy a D70s, so there's gonna be bias here...
There are some nice things about the D70s like the two command dials, so it's easy to change aperature and shutter speed. Actually the whole interface of the D70s is much better than the 350D, the two command dials help, but it's just that everything is just there in the D70s, white balance, ISO, metering mode, exposure compensation, flash compensation.
Bracketting is a piece of piss! There's a dedicated button for it. So you can switch from single shot mode to full bracketting in less than a second. Turn bracketting on, turn continuous shooting on, compose the shot, press and hold the shutter button until it's completed its bracketting.
The metering of the Nikon's is much better too. 1,005 points instead of 35 zones.
The Canon has more focusing points though (7 vs 5).
Oh, and a big one for me was the weight of the Nikon. It's heavier, which I like. It's also better built.
But at the end of the day, it's more expensive than the 350D and has fewer megapixels... You've gotta add up all the positives and negatives and weight them in terms of your personal importance.

Harmon Kardon make speakers , as for the camera shit, i found it out cos i was gonna buy a 350D, and the guy asked if I was ever gonna get better lenses I said possibly he said wait for the 20D to come down in price as the 350D can't take the good lenses cos of that problem.

Can you elabroate on this? I have a 350D and it works fine with all the L's I've got though I still prefer to handle the 10D. I find the 350D out of the camera is a bit too saturated for it's own good compared to the 10D where I like to tweak it a bit before converting to JPG.
Nark, good job on those African shots.

The L-sreies lenses will mount fine there is just a risk (quite a large one) that due to the added weight of them and the 350D only having a plastic mount for the lens that it will physically just pull the mount out. It'd be fine say if you were supporting the lens all the time but should you leave it round your neck and have it dangling the lens will put pressure on the plastic mount and cause it to break.
I am going off the word of the salesman at Fletchers photogrpahics, as he said they had a few 350D's returned because of this problem.

Hmm.. note to self.. never let the 100-400 or a 70-200IS hang off the camera. Thanks for the tip. I was worried about hanging a 70-200IS on the end of the 300D (when I had a 300D) but people have told me it's fine because whilst its a plastic externals, it's got a metal frame.
But whenever I use the 70-200IS or 100-400, I'd let it hang but when I use it, I wouldn't just hold it by the body regardless of what camera I had. That's just asking for trouble.
