2JZ INTO MZ20 Wed, 23 November 2005 09:52 Go to next message
Hi guys, i have started my 2JZ into MZ20 conversion and run into a snag.

My engine is a 97 VVTi 2JZ and the JZA70 cast alloy engine brackets wont bolt up. It seems that all is well on the older non-VVTi 2JZs but the bolt holes don't line up on the newer version engine.

Has anyone run into this issue?

The crossmember accepts the square engine mounts (7M) but neither the old 7M brackets, JZA70 will go onto the block.

Save from making custom mounts, I'm open to ideas.

Cheers

maybe a jza70 crossmember would be your best bet?

The cross meber is not the issue. I am getting a JZA70 crossmember.

The issue is that the bolt holes on my VVTi block for the engine brackets are in a different location to a non VVTi engine.

In effect the intake manifold side engine bracket will not bolt on. Exhaust is ok.

Any ideas?

Bah, all sounds a bit too hard.

Buy a Sprinter and put it in that.

Pole smakers? Or Pole Smokers?

indeed...do they hit traffic lights or suck the wang? I am quite perplexed...

but seriously...how far off are the brackets? could the be redrilled or could new threads be tapped into the block?

Smackers. That will teach me to rush.

The brackets could be modifed or new ones made but i would like to use factory pats where possible.

Cheers

I am sure you already know this but just in case. There is 6 bolt holes on the jz engines. So have you tried both mounting locations? (4 bolt mounts)

On the exhaust side there are six on the intake side there are four.

In the early 2JZ and i think 1JZ (exhaust side) all six are in line. On the later model they are staggered. Again i think exhaust side should be ok only the intake side seems to be an issue.

i migh try an exhaust side bracket on the intake side and se if this fits.

i'll post pics tomorrow.

Cheers Guys.

What's a "factory pat"?

Oh yeah, forgot to tell you. Your 2J is in and running. You missed out on it all because you were bludging at home.
