dodgy gearbox Sat, 26 November 2005 15:16 Go to next message
hey peoples, for a while now ive been driving me rona with this problem slowly gettin bigger and bigger. my gearbox wont let me get into 2nd sometimes. normally it will let me but when its jsut started up it wont let me put it in gear and if i do i have to really jam it in.and so over time this happens more and more until tonite it jsut completly got to me and got pissed off. so what i need to know now is, do i have to replace the box with anotehr corona one OR can i get a better one like a w50? or something like that which will bolt right in and be better then ur standard rona box

cheers dino. sorry bout the long babble

What sort of gearbox is it?

Sounds like 2nd gear syncro which is a very common problem with most types of gearboxes with age. It's harder when it's just been started because the oil is cold, once it warms up it gets thinner and easier to get it into gear.

Try mixing some ATF with your gearbox oil to thin it out a little, say half a litre.
