You will need to connect all 3 wires in the plug on the 20v alt.
There should be a sticker on the alt as i can't remember which is what at the moment. They will be L = charge light
I = ignitin feed
S = battery 12v
to chech you have the correct wire on the car, turn on the ignition and using a test light ground the wire, if it brings on the charge light..you found the correct wire.
will have a look at an alt in the morning and tell you the positions on the alt.
cheers

It's a long time since I looked at this, but I THINK the wire for the light is on the same 2 pin plug that originally went to the carb. I and S (sense) are fairly easy to find a home for.

find the 6 pin plug where your external voltage regulator was once connected (it should now be removed).

From the 3 pin plug off the alternator, you will have:
S - battery voltage sense
Ign/I - Ignition
L - charge light

these three are to be wired to the wires in the 6 pin plug which sideshow has just outlined.

All done.

here is a picture.

The 20V alternator should be an internally regulated internal fan unit. if you look at the plug on the alternator
(nippon denso 3 pin regualtor)

I always remember : LEFT EYE = LIGHT (LEFT EYE OF SMILEY FACE)

light ignition

sense

Note this is when you are looking at plug from rear of alternator. Sense will run straight to the battery and will normally be white.
Light will be yellow and runs into the car to dash etc ect...
Ignition will be either blue or red (or a combintaion)
