icon5.gif  motor revs by itself when head light turns on????? Sun, 27 November 2005 16:38 Go to next message
my mates just bought his suzuki vitara carbi 1.6 and we just changed oil, coolant, filters on and after we started the car it ran alright but once we turned the lights on the motor rev to about 1600 rpm and back to 800 and then revs and back again until we turned off the light. The throttle was actually moving when it revs but what is moving the throttle? is there a motor there possibly control the throttle automatically on carby engine? anyone got a vitara service manual by anychance?

This is a typical case of bad earth syndrome! Take the car to Shane's Earth Moving for a quote or repair!

the earth is not always maintained and this can create problems, which are easily solved by finding someone that is capable of moving and upgrading the earth around your car.
as suggested contact shane's earth moving service Very Happy

that sounds weird...

but...

since it is your mates car, and i assume you are nearby.. you could open the bonnet and have a look yourself? faster and easier than asking toyota people about a vitara...

if there is no servo device to move the throttle, then what else could it be?

You'll only have a servo device to move the throttle if it's fly by wire. AFAIK there isn't a vitamin that has one. So if the throttle is moving then they have connected it to the headlight switch.

What do you mean bad? At least no ones said go fuck yourself it's not a toyota.

Could it be related to alt load and a connection to the ECU to bring revs up to allow for same?

Just a bit of update. We found that there's a solenoid thingy which was controlling the throttles/carbi? to open and close when the light was on, and its controlled by an vacuum switch. The switch has two wires out of it, no idea what it is connected to atm, but we unpluged it and the weird thing disappeared, still gotta work out whats wrong with those two wires with the headlights. Thanks for all advices people sorry not a toyota. Evil or Very Mad

As I said it sounds like a idle control valve. Commonly used to up the idle when A/c is turned on. Could be linked throught the ECU to voltage load on the alternator or could be an elec fault somewhere feeding back to it causing it to operate.

Time to call in the sparkie
