cooling of the Crank angle sensor Tue, 29 November 2005 02:58 Go to next message
i bought the latest drift battle mag over the weekend and i noticed a 4ag engine in there with a cold air duct especially to the Crank angle sensor

Can anyone shed some light on why they are cooling the crank angle sensor?

i guess they are subject to some serious heat sitting just above the exhaust.. although ive never known anyone to melt one ..

As per above. I.e. No reason at all I could think of except to make gullible fools look at it and book their cars in to get the same stuff done.

Sure, it might cool it down a little, but what does that acheive?

Well if the engine was continually revving high, you could eventually get the coils hot enough to burn out.

when i say melt i wasnt meaning literally melt.. it was more melt as in destroy the internals as a result of constant heat abuse.. i appreciate that you certainly wont melt the casing.. or at least not before runing many more bits..

I was worried about this when I first fitted my engine - there is 2/5 of 5/8 clearance between CAS and extractors. However I never got around to shielding it and everything works fine after two years of serious abuse.

Plus when I've had it apart there are no signs of anything untoward.

Another thing you can add to your car to amaze your friends but achieve very little.

I sent the CAS lid off for ceramic coating when they did the rest of the manifold - cost peanuts and cheap insurance
