iv'e checked the plate.... its vibrating like hell... but not squeaking, if i put alot of pressure onto the back of the hatch it stops squeaking.

check the little rubber bits that stop ur boot lid from hitting the frame. they might be rubbing if they have worn down and not applying enough pressure.

also, check ur parcel shelf. in my ae82 it comes up when u open the boot lid. it gets all flimsy after a while especially if you put extra weight(speakers, in my case 7x10) on there. you can make a new one out of stronger wood or try to strengthen it.

i have had to remake my parcel shelf... it made out of half inch hardwood... and it doesnt come up with the hatch... i took that out when the last one broke... and the rubber bits appear to be fine

i have a feeling it will b the parcel shelf rubbing on something, mine used to do this.

put the stereo on, get in the back and try to listen for it, hold stuff down and see if it goes away.
also get in the boot(make sure u got somone handy to let u out, lol) and do the same thing.
