Hey there!
a)
They came out in 7M's and 1G's.
b)
There are a few, not as many as the newer soarers, but thats what I like about them, originality.
c)
I got mine, straight as, in excellent cond. for $10,500. Just be patient and keep an eye out. mine came up on drive.com.au and was only 2 hrs up the road
Can you still import the z2 soarers? I thought they changed rules?
And heres a pic of mine for ya
Websites not up yet, just one pic, but for future reference:

EDIT: I posted a url to a site but it may not exist any more
Enjoy

Hi,
I've only ever seen a dozen or so around the roads in Melbourne and I've owned 2 of them (still got 1). I've the 1G-GTE version - goes OK in manual form with a bit more boost and an exhaust. However, I've been in an auto 7M-GTE version and the extra torque REALLY helps.
Best thing about the 7M versions is the huge amount of info available for upping the power reliably. The aut gearboxes are readily toughened up too.
You can still get the Z20 Soarers in as they get through under the 15 year rule. That makes them even cheaper to get now. I've seen some advertised through Prestige Motorsport
http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/
and the recent ones have been under $9,000 complied. Search their backlist and you'll see prices. They will bring in under order too.
There is also Soarer sales and service - next to Toyospares in Bayswater, although I'm not sure if they are still doing them. They used to comply them under the old import program.
Check unique cars - or more likely autosupermarket nowadays - and you'll often see a few for sale.
Good luck
If you want any further help or a ride, let me know.

thanks for the replies everyone, i should probably be more concerned abnout spare parts availability, but i drive an AE86 sprinter at the moment, so driving a common car isn't a major concern (of course the price difference is quite large)
after hearing the BHG problem of the 7ms, then the BHG solution i am still keen on getting one, might have to wait a while though, my car still needs paint and a real engine,
i think these look a fair bit nicer than the current soarers, smaller and lighter looking.
i feel like an idiot now, i just remembered that there is a cream colored one that parks nearish to my house fairly often.
this is definately under consideration, a car with decent power and air conditioning! even at the same time mabeye.
