Next car?

im selling my celica (ST162) on friday...
and i was wondering what car i should get next....
i sorta want an older car... possibly AE86 or any of the old toyota's in general. RWD is a must and if i fell in love with it, maybe even a car to do up so it would need to have some modification potential.
With the Sprinters, those gearboxes, i herd if u break one, u have to get one out of either an AE71 or an AE86, there are no other choices because the bellhousing is welded onto the box.
someone please correct me and maybe make some suggestions.
thanks
Mat

see my post nearby called olschool soarers,
AE86s are good, but be prepared to shell out heaps of money to get them nice, i haven't shelled out, and as a consequence mine isn't nice.
what i have just said applies to any car older than a few years though of course.
here are a few ideas:
ta22 celica, or the equivalent "mustang style" celica (yeah munki)
an (someone correct me here) RA 60 ish hatchbac
trhats it for celicas, not a fan of the one in between these two,
maybeye a first gen MR2,
there arent too many lightweight RWD cars out there (old affordable ones taht is)
good luck!

Umm pretty sure the gearbox has a bellhousing that isn't welded (its just a T50 after all!).
They run a 4A-C which are slow but generally pretty long lasting, not sure on the rest of the mechanical package (diff / suspension). But parts are starting to get hard / expensive to find.
Great potential with the newer A series motors tho (20vlv GZE)
Cheers

no bellhousing isn't welded on.
there are supra gearbox upgrades available for around $1000, wihtout gearbox I think, so its not cheap.

My chouce would be an Ra28 or a ta22 ..
Ra RA's have the W series gearboxes which are stronger than the t50's plus they seem to be more user friendly for conversions to the likes of 3tgte's and 1ggte's
your pretty much stuck with the t50 unless you want to spend big biccies on a sprinter W series coversion ..
you can get decent ra2X's with 18rg's and w50 boxes for under 5k these days - they would be the best starting point for modified carby old School toyota - just takes a bit of looking to find them.
OR on a slightly lesser scale - theres alot of ta22's with 2tg's in them that can be picked up for under 4K ..
IMHO sprinters are only good as a fun car if they have the 4age or 4agze in them - but the 4ag-ZE will kill t50 gearboxes in quick order if you start making them go harder.
At least with the Old 2t/3t motor in the old school celica - you can make them go hard - with camming , webers and tuning , the 4ac leaves a lot to be desired ..
