Heya guys,
Just wondering what the specs on a 7AFE were, so far I know its a 1.8L 16V EFI inline 4 but I was wondering if it was DOHC and what sorta kW we were talking on this? Its outa a bog standard '95 Rolla.
Ta,

I think Wilbo means 1.8L (1762.5cc)... If you search the forums, there should be a heaps of info on what can be done with them, or email me direct, I can give you a run down of what I run and have done with them so far.johnek@ozemail.com.au

Yeah they are not that bad an engine, but the 4AGE head design is a little better in terms of making power but that said the 7A gets a little more torque than most of the 4A's due to its extra size so it is good for the later Rolla's as they got quite porky!
The 7AGE is a VERY interesting kettle of fish!

you mean like this one
I've got to upload the new pic's of it together and finished! Just waiting for ECU and fitting to the donar car.
For a 7AFE, the best I got so far is 70Kw@wheel's, but I'm waiting for the new engine to be dynoed, to see if It'll pass this, ATM it feels like it does have a heap more grunt and it's still tight, so it will be interesting once it's run in.

Hey Johnny can you tell us a bit about your setup??
Did you use 4A pistons, 4A or 7A rods?, 7A crank obviously but did you prep it in anyway? and also what did you use for the timing belt? Also what did you set the redline at and are you using aftermarket management? Looks like a bigport head, what made you decide to use the bigport, do you think the smallport / 20v would be better? Stock 4A injectors?
Sorry for the barrage of questions!
Looks pretty nice man , does it feel like it has a fair bit of torque?
Cheers

Firstly, this is a trial engine, so everything is pretty much left as standard. The bottom end is a completely standard 7A Item except the 4AG pistons and crank timing gear. The head is a small ported, mildly ported, dual valve springs with Big port cams (higher lift and duration) and verniers (from Damo), though these cams may change for a custom grind. Porsche 944, 928 are a bad fit, the 944 is perfect. Few other minor mod's are needed as well that involve the water pump and casing. So far, this engine hasn't be run and is going into a street drive car, the Rev limited will be decided once it's on the dyno. The 7AFE that is raced, is a totally different kettle and it has a redline of 7,500, runs forged everything. This bottom end and a GE head is on the books at a later date, more or less after I replace the current 7AFE with a works 20V.

Forgot to mention that the piston's on a 7A are an interference fit and a 4AGE piston uses a floating fit.... you can either use convert the 7A rod to a floater or the 4AG pistons to allow and interference fit, the floating is the better choice.
