Bro,
Where you planning on buying this deck from ?
I suggest going out to those shifty asians in Cab and Fairfield, not only are they dirt cheap but have warranty as well, plus they have good brand names,
I go for Pioneer, personal preference

That's interesting info Nark... I've just been looking for MP3-capable CD players for the poopra and the cheapest I came across was ~$500 for a Panasonic unit. I might have to have a closer look at one of these JVC things!

ive heard mixed things about the panasonic unit, i was looking to buy one and the salesman was going on about how good they are and how they use them in sound offs in "USA"
but speaking to a few mates who are into car audio (no they dont run the JVC deck) and they told me to stay away from the panasonic gear, which is a shame cause the panasonic felt like it was better made than the JVC cause the JVC face felt like it had cheap plastic on it.

One thing I've got to mention is that I don't really care for car audio. Nothing in my car will sound the same as my home HiFi unless I dump three times as much money into it.
I don't do it for weight reasons... I'm still running the stock (tiny) front speakers with no rears...
The sound from the JVC mp3 head unit isn't as good as the Sony MD head unit I used to have though.
It's good enough for me 'coz I don't expect much...

Hobart Audio Clinic have JVC mp3 players for about $400. And on top of that you get 50 CD R's. I don't know whether there is a Launnie Audio Clinic.
All the same I'm sure you could ring them up and get them to post one too you. Shouldn't cost too much. I can find out more if you want, as they are only 1 min drive from my place.
As for JVC, they have a good rep. One of my mates brought the base mp3 player and it excellent. I just wish I had a bit of money... I'ld update the Alpine non mp3 unit of mine. I would probably have to loose the alpine stickers on my car if I do that though!!!
Cheers

I got the JVC KD-S785 from JB for $295 plus the 50 cd's. It is the only cheap mp3 unit that you can get without going into the really cheap shit like audiovox (i think) and california sound or some shit. I have a few complaints about the JVC compared to my old Kenwood.
1. Pressing ATT and then turning the car off is a bad idea as when you start the car again, you scare the shit out of yourself coz the ATT has been turned off and it is at full volume again.
2. When using ATT, it takes up the whole display and flashes ATT which is don't think is really necessary.
I've noticed these things especially the first one (disregard the second one) are a trend in JVC units.
P.S. does anybody know if there is way of getting the mp3's to play back continuously? ie. no pausing between tracks. Doesn't sound too good listening to a mixed CD like Gatecrasher and having pauses between each track.

with regards to mixed cd's, you could rip the whole cd into one big mp3... or when you encode try to strip any pause at the begining and end of tracks

Stripping won't help, it's just the pause while the unit is loading the next mp3. Nothing you can do about it unless you rip is as a single mp3.

yeah the pause doesn't really bother me that much plus i like the fact that i can select different tracks rather than having to use the crappy fast forward if it were a whole mp3. fast forwarding mp3's is the last thing you'd want to do, especially with a whole file.

I've got an MPX30 Sony head unit, plays MP3's, data receptive for radio stations, remote control, 4X50 i think.
Top unit very pleased with it, got it for $450 from Lifestyle audio in Parra. It retails at strathfield for $699.
I bargained with one of the guys and got it very, very, very cheap.

I must say, the Pioneers are slow to load mp3's...and my sisters JVC loads them much faster, which IMO is better.
The look of my Pioneer hu is nice though.
