Looking after a turbo vehicle? Tue, 18 February 2003 06:18 Go to next message
Everyone wants to turbocharge there car for extra power, but after all this is achieved does anyone really know what they are in for down the track. I'm specifically talking about bigger turbos, not standard, possibly bolt on stuff as well as custom. I'm curious about the maintenance, is it expensive, like how often do you drivers keep your turbo vehicle in good condition.

Does it end up costing as much as the install over a short period

Is turbos for the poor ass uni student, or do you really need a good job with decent income?

Are we to expect running costs to go higher, eg. petrol/oil goes faster ?

If i am missing any other downsides please write them in.

Any info is appreciated ^_^

my car now uses less petrol, only bad point is spending a couple of mins in the morning running it before driving to work and then the warm down for acouple of minutes too.
oh and using expensive oil every 5k.. and having to use optimax.. but the extra cash is worth it. turbo car... blow job.. you know which one I'd pick.

If you slot in a standard turbo engine and keep it standard, it will last long enough, You just need to use better oil and change it more often.

When you start modifying it, it all depends on the nut behind the wheel.

My problem at the moment is the rest of the car, specifically the diff won't keep up with 3 times the power

Can we get that blow job in the turbo car???
If so sign me up for one.
But honestly, running a turbo car is a little bit more on maintence. But this would only be a 20% increase or so.
Cars are expensive no matter what u got tho.

Yup, the 1G-GTE uses up about 11L/100km whereas the 21R-C used to use at least 13L/100km.

As long as you look after it. You do need to give it better oil and petrol, but other than that (and the turbo timer), it's basically the same as an N/A...

I just changed the oil on my car over the weekend and it had been about 6,000K's since the last service.

Exactly the same amount of oil came out as went in so they don't use more oil at all, its just you should keep it clean and high quality to promote longer life.
