the speedo needle on my 86 corolla twin cam keeps 'wavering'. for example when i'm doing 60 the needle jumps between 50 and 80. does anyone know why this would be happening? i know its a cable driven speedo if that helps... thanks

My speedo cable does almost the same thing, though only occasionally and when accelerating. Once speed is up it holds the speed it should (I hope!).

Thing is I only noticed it when my Auto was replaced... Maybe the mechanics switched over the speedo cable with one that came with the auto or could it be a fault in the auto itself?

Happens cause the speedo cable gets stretched over time.

I once drove a mini from Sydney to Victoria and the needle was bouncing off 0mph and the limit which was about 100mph from memory.

Pretty hard to speed in that heap though!!!
