this is probably not what you want to hear but wouldnt the best way be to pay and get them powdercoated? it would be by far the most durable paint for wheels.

I just asked the place (DMD) up here in Brizzy re cost of powder coating alloy wheels ... $50 seems to be the ballpark figure per alloy wheel.

paul wrote a bit on how he shined his wheels (I think it was on his webpage actually)
you'll have to sand off the clearcoat, which is on them from the factory.
then you'll want to get them machined, get rid of any dents or scratches.
then you'll want them powdercoated (ideally, but you could just spray them I guess)
and follow this with some more clear coat..
I'm not too sure about the last step, I know very little about paints on cars

we used to 2pak our wheels but that is alot of effort and when the paint chips it looks terrible and needs to be completely resprayed. Although having them done in 2pak won't be cheap either. Many mags these days (including my PCWs) appear to be done in acrylic. If you have all the equipment and want to do it yourself you could do them in acrylic. If you are looking to fork out some $$$ for it then just bite the bullet. $200 isn't really that much and the finish will be much better.
