Hey Guys,
This is a bit of a continuation of before... (CDR Media)
I've got me some Laser CD's and they seems to work well, in everything except the play station!!
I'm not 100% sure i have a modchip, as i got it 2nd hand form a mate who said its got one. However it does play other burnt games, just not the ones i burn.
I've tried using cloneCD and CDRwin and the software that came with the burner (B's Gold)
The burner is a sony CRX195-E (no honda jokes )
Help??
thanks,
Cam

The lasers never worked well in the PSX! The best type media is the kind that that you cant see any light through! Also when burning them, do it at a slow speed!

Slow speed = 1 speed
Burn it at the lowest possible speed( *ahem* 1 speed)
Done this many times, never a coaster, all worked
BTW i used nero and a lite on burner

I agree with the slow writing speed. I haven't burned a PSX game in years, but when I did, 1x speed *always* worked, whereas 4x rarely worked.
Also, darker discs seem to have more success. Perhaps it is related to standard PSX discs being black underneath, and the laser working at a certain wavelength ???
One other thing to try (if the PSX is old), turn the Playstation upside down when playing games. The laser drops ever so slightly closer to the disc and makes a few of my games work a *lot* better. No skipping video etc.

Hi guys.
I've been burning at 4x (the slowest it goes!)
I fail to see how turing the unit upside down would help.
The laser unit can move up and down, but it does so as to get the layer its reading in focus....

Trust me it does work better upside down! This also aids in cooling! The PSX had shitty cooling which broke down the laser in a very short time!
So its best if you do not have the unit working on carpet!

Oh and by the way you can get software that will burn at 1 speed! Just a matter of looking around for some software that suports your hardware!

OK, I am somewhat a psx copying grand master, I had boxes of the things, I got a little carried away when I got the burner.
Don't worry about the speed, burn at whatever your comp usually burns at, wont make a difference to the psx game (unless you ger burrer underruns and shit)
turning the psx upside down does help, the prob with them is the track that the laser moves in is plastic and wears out, more on one side than the othern so it ends up on an angle, turning it upside down makes it rest on the top tracks (which also wear down eventually.
If upside down doesn't work, you can also adjust the laser focus, this often helps if you are having trouble playing shit disks.
When copying the games, I always had trouble with games that needed to be patched, I think it was my burner (crappy old acer) because I could do it on friends no worries. Straight copy games worked fine though.
Are you copying games that need patching? if so are you applying the patches? try a game that doesn't need patching and see if it works.
I only ever used cdrwin and copied the cd image to a bin file to the comp then made the cd using the image.
check www.gamecopyworld.com for info on patches.
Now, can anyone help me in copying (ripping) ps2 dvd's?? I haven't had one work yet but I think it is the same probs that I had with patched psx games.

Hey guys,
I've since bought some TDK gold cd's and they seem to work!!
I also today bought some verbatim cd's (blue) and they seem to work also!!
I've been using CloneCD, using the gamecd option, setting audio extraction to best(slowest), copying via the HD and setting write speed to 1x, althought it burns at 4x anyway!
Looks like i'll have to spend a little extra on cd's for the play station!

with the burners i have owned, 4x, 16, and now 48x, i have always burned at full speed with limited failure... the ones i have failed on have always failed at 1x, which could be something to do with protection, or a scratched up disk.
i used to use some cd prog that came bundled with the kodak burner years ago, but since then have used psx copier, clonecd, nero (my favourite), easy cd creator, and some random progs that were meant to be the shit, but turned out to be shit.
having said all that, i bought a box of 100 lazer disks back in the day, and got about 70% success rate at any speed, with burn, be it a copy or a compilation/backup i made.
so meh, i dunno... try and try again, see what happens.

I've found nero is the best program to copy PSX games with(of course I own the original tho..). Laser make a "Professional" version of thier disks which are black top and bottom(just like original PSX disks), they go for about $1 each....should be able to get them at any electronics shop, DSE dont sell them, but I think Jaycar do. Written them at 32X and still work great in PSX.
