Just make sure you clear everything out of the car and be prepared to get the car dirty ...

Sorry for the huge pic but too lazy to resize: Rolling Eyes

Hmmm ... I'm also going for a respray - they've stripped one layer of paint back & will paint on top rather than going back to bare metal layer.

I told the guys beauty was only skin deep so I didn't care if the insides (ie. door & boot sills) were not painted. However they insisted this be done as customers in the past has seen the result & then asked them to do all of it again. Rolling Eyes

As for the colour, I'm going for the Panda scheme. Sad as I've yet to see one with my own eyes up here in QLD so it'd be a bit of a rarity up here.

As for price wise, ballpark quote was $4,500 on average however I guess I got a good deal at DMD here who quoted me $3,000 all up. It's the first time they're doing an AE86 so guess they've underquoted me for the job. Smile

Quite happy with the job so far as they've completely stripped the interior etc to get the sills as well and remove all rust spots.

I'll post the results when it's done in hopefully another 2 weeks or so. In the meantime, a couple more pics:

As for a blue scheme for yours, I'd recommend this one:

Good luck with yours!

if you are just going to get rid of it and only want to spray the outside of the car then just respray the car in the original colour. That way it will still match the inside, sills, engine bay etc. Having had mine resprayed recently and only now just having the paint polished (1 month later) it was worth the extra effort of stripping everything off it and getting a good job done. If you don't want your car looking like a cheap taxi (Yellow Cabs are good at only spraying the outside of their cars) then i would either put the effort in to strip the car if you are going to change colours or respray the original colour (saves alot of time and effort). You could still put a pearl through the clear coats if you wanted. My car was that Sprinter shit red, i would never allow it to stay that colour, it is now white.

Car's still with the painters but should be out soon ...

Hey ... just realised that the Sprinter in the first pic's got 5 stud axels with (I do believe) Nissan S14 alloys ...

Looks nice but what was involved in the conversion I wonder?

Looks good anyway & I'm sure the range of wheels would be wider than the current range ... could even squeeze those R34 GTR wheels under it if u wanted with some serious lipping. Very Happy

Anyway, here are the latest photos taken today straight from the baking oven:

Hey Dodgy,

Did you happen to see how they masked up the car for the two tone? Just wondering if there are any tricks to it.

I want to respray mine (eventually), and since it came originally with the two tone I'd like to keep it that way.

rgrds
sam.

Sam, I didn't see the actual process however I did ask the guy who painted it. Apparently it's no rocket science - they just used tape to cover the white bits & then resprayed the car. I was told it was a special tape though that allowed them to curve it to any shape they wanted but I can't see why normal masking tape won't do the job. Confused

Sprintr, yep ... trying to achieve something like the CBY Levin however I doubt flares & tire offsets like that are street legal. That said, I am trying to achieve Wataru's turbo AE86 Levin in Initial D ~ 2nd Stage. I've already got the Levin air slot grill on the front just to add more to the authencity.

It will look something like that guy's levin in the pic in the link however a couple of differences:

1) I'm fixing the OEM rear spoiler, not the duck tail once this is all completed;

2) I have some JDM Levin tail lights waiting to be cleaned & then attached;

3) That dude must have painted his Levin without pics for the back! He's got white just below the tail lights ! Shocked
