What about ECU power? Does the fuel pump kick over?

Its quite simple, the Microtech only needs 3 things to turn on.
1. Main 12v direct from battery, don't take it from any other point.
2. Negative, also run this direct to the battery.
3. 12V from the ignition switch to the IGN input on the m/tech.
Are you getting this third one?
Also your main supply to the m/tech should be fused right at the battery, is that fuse blown?

Update:
The ECU/mt8 now powers up.
The fuel pump initiates.
The ignitor doesn't seem to work though, no spark.

Is this the first time you have run the microtech?
Sounds like a few teething problems your having.
Check there is power on the positive side of the coils permanently when you turn on your ignition.
The Microtech only sinks the current from the coils. It returns the current to the battery through that main negative wire but you've now checked that and the Microtech now turns on indicating your negative is somewhat adequate.
